Abstract: An example playback device is configured to detect an input indicating a command to power up the playback device and, based on the input, begin initialization of a wireless network interface. After beginning initialization of the wireless network interface but before the playback device is capable of establishing a connection to at least one wireless network type via the wireless network interface, the playback device causes the wireless network interface to scan for available wireless networks of the at least one wireless network type. The playback device identifies at least one available wireless network and stores an indication of the at least one available wireless network. After the playback device is capable of establishing a connection, the playback device uses the stored indication of the at least one available wireless network to establish a connection to a given wireless network of the at least one available wireless network.

The mobile device contains a resource proxy for dynamically storing a set of resources that are available to the electronic device and that are location specific, e.g., accessible via a point that is near the electronic device. The resource proxy contains a resource table recording the available resources and a gateway table indicating a pathway for reaching the data. The resource proxy definitions are technology independent with respect to the communication mechanisms required to obtain the data. Resources are added to the resource proxy via a resource discovery mechanism automatically performed by the mobile device. Multiple network gateways can be defined and each is responsible for requesting and retrieving information for the resource proxy.

Abstract: A system for providing policy management in a network that includes nodes operating in multiple protocol layers and having enforcement functions. Multiple network devices, such as routers, remote access equipment, switches, repeaters and network cards, and end system processes having security functions are configured to contribute to implementation of policy enforcement in the network. By distributing policy enforcement functionality to a variety of network devices and end systems, a pervasive policy management system is implemented. The policy management system includes a policy implementation component that accepts policy, i.e. instructions or rules, that define how the network device should behave when confronted with a particular situation.
