Publication number: 20130245277Abstract: Provided is a novel iridium catalyst complex which is useful in the dehydrogenation of alkanes. The iridium complex comprises the metal iridium atom complexed with a benzimidazolyl-containing ligand. The iridium atom can be coordinated with the nitrogen atoms in the benzimidazolyl-containing ligand to form an NCN pincer ligand complex. In another embodiment, the iridium catalyst is used, with or without a co-catalyst, in a dehydrogenation reaction converting alkanes to olefins. The reaction can be in a closed or open system, and can be run in a liquid or gaseous phase.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 12, 2012Publication date: September 19, 2013Inventors: Alan Stuart Goldman, Robert Timothy Stibrany

Publication number: 20130245324Abstract: Provided is a process for effectively and efficiently oxidizing alkyl-containing molecules with the use of an oxygen-containing gas. An iridium metal catalyst complex with the iridium being coordinated with the nitrogen atoms of a benzimidazolyl-containing ligand is used as the catalyst. The process generates alcohols, ketones and aldehydes directly from alkyl-containing molecules and/or aromatic molecules.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 12, 2012Publication date: September 19, 2013Inventors: Alan Stuart Goldman, Robert Timothy Stibrany

Publication number: 20130116492Abstract: Provided is a process for preparing alkyl aromatic compounds. The process comprises contacting an alkane under dehydrogenation conditions in the presence of a dehydrogenation catalyst, e.g., a pincer iridium catalyst, to form olefins, and then contacting the olefins generated with an aromatic compound under alkylation conditions. Both reactions are conducted in a single reactor, and occur simultaneously.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 12, 2012Publication date: May 9, 2013Applicants: CHEVRON U.S.A. INC., RUTGERS, THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF NJInventors: Alan Stuart Goldman, Long Van Dinh, William L. Schinski

Publication number: 20130090503Abstract: Provided is a process for preparing oligomers from an alkane. The process comprises (a) contacting an alkane under dehydrogenation conditions in the presence of a dehydrogenation catalyst such as an iridium catalyst complex comprising iridium complexed with a benzimidiazolyl-containing ligand to form olefins, and (b) contacting the olefins prepared in step (a) under oligomerization conditions with an oligomerization catalyst such as a nickel, platinum or palladium metal catalyst complex comprising the metal complexed with a nitrogen containing bi- or tridentate ligand to prepare oligomers of the olefins, and hydrogenating the olefin oligomers. In one embodiment, the ligands of the catalyst complexes in step (a) and step (b) can be the same.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 12, 2012Publication date: April 11, 2013Applicants: CHEVRON U.S.A. INC., RUTGERS, THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF NJInventors: Alan Stuart Goldman, Robert Timothy Stibrany, William L. Schinski

Publication number: 20130037604Abstract: The present invention relates to reinforced box structures. A blank for forming a pre-stiffened box structure is provided. The blank comprises a box portion having a base and side panels for providing a box structure, a stiffening panel extending integrally from a given one of the side panels, and a line of weakness delimiting the stiffening panel from said given side panel. The blank is operable into a pre-stiffened configuration wherein the given side panel is folded to position the stiffening panel to substantially overlap and be secured to the base of the box portion. When the folded side panel is pivoted about the line of weakness, a free end of the side panel is biased away from the secured stiffening panel and thereby separates from the stiffening panel along the line of weakness.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 13, 2012Publication date: February 14, 2013Inventor: Stuart Goldman
