  • Publication number: 20090129793
Abstract: A toner dam maintenance process and system model the amount of toner mass at a toner cleaner blade, and apply a corrective procedure, such as insertion of a paperless copy into the print job mid-job or immediately prior to cycle out, to replenish the toner mass at the cleaner blade to maintain lubrication and reduce cleaning failure. The modeling includes contributing factors toward toner dam input and output, including untransferred toner, cycle-in/cycle-out bands, untransferred background, and leakage of toner from the cleaner blade. One or several threshold can be reached to cause one or more different corrective actions to take place. The action may be adding or skipping a pitch to insert a corrective maintenance pattern without transfer.

  • Patent number: 7493410
Abstract: A method and apparatus for improved operation of a packet network by controllably providing switched physical alternate links between packet network nodes, at least one of which is a host, and using those switched physical alternate links to supplement the capacity of the packet network. A switched physical alternate link is composed of physical elements, switchable connection devices, and a manager, such that a switched physical alternate link behaves as a single point-to-point physical link between nodes in a packet network. Creating and removing switched physical alternate links as the packet network operates provides supplemental carrying capacity between the packet network nodes connected by switched physical alternate links, while overall packet network congestion is simultaneously reduced.

  • Publication number: 20080291896
Abstract: A method of determining an overall presence state for a user of a communication system in which the user is connected to the communication system using a plurality of devices. The method includes each of the plurality of devices storing in a device memory a presence state for that device; detecting a change in the presence state in at least one of the plurality of devices; each of the plurality of devices transmitting a message via the communication system to the remainder of the plurality of devices, the message comprising the presence state; receiving the messages at the remainder of the plurality of devices; and executing a decision-making code sequence in a processor at each of the remainder of the plurality of devices to determine whether to synchronise the presence state of that device with the presence state from one of the messages based on the origin of an event causing the change in presence state at the at least one of the plurality of devices.

  • Publication number: 20080277941
Abstract: A device for the generation of electrical power from a fluid flow, and more particularly for harvesting power from flows downhole in oil or gas wells, comprises a cylinder or other blunt body (1) arranged crosswise to the flow and supported on the end of a sprung cantilever arm (3) held in a fixed mount, with freedom to oscillate in response to the shedding of a Karman vortex trail v from the? body. The resultant motion of the body (1) and arm (3) is converted into electrical energy by piezoelectric material (5) which is attached to, and stressed by, flexure of the arm. Other arrangements of piezoelectric and inductive power generation from the oscillation of the device are described.

  • Publication number: 20080256070
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of cataloguing a data structure and also preferably a method of searching through such as data structure to detect the presence of search patterns within the data structure. The catalogusing method of the present invention employs the formation of a catalogue data structure which is used to associate data items (transformed from data elements present within the data collection) with storage addresses. This catalogue data structure may be sorted to facilitate searching through same. Such searches may be completed through the formation of a plurality of search quries from a received search pattern sequence where the results of running these search queries may then be subsequently considered in conjunction with a search pattern sequence detection process.

  • Patent number: 7181748
Abstract: A segmentation and re-assembly (SAR) decode engine receives protocol data units of data from a communication channel between two computers, sequences the protocol data units, and re-assembles the data in the protocol data units into the messages exchanged by the computers. The SAR decode engine is responsible for unpacking the payloads from the protocol data units as instructed by a protocol interpreter associated with the protocol data unit, and for creating and maintaining a flow object database containing flow objects representing the data flows at each protocol layer. The SAR decode engine creates a protocol flow object for each protocol layer and logically links the protocol flow object to circuit flow objects that define two one-way circuits within the channel. The circuit flow objects linked to a protocol flow object are logical representations of the protocol data units for the next higher protocol layer.
