Publication number: 20240305456Abstract: A computing device may receive data associated with an event from an originating apparatus in the form of a data item. The computing device may then apply an evaluation function to the data item, wherein applying the evaluation function generates a processing result characterizing an aspect of the data item. The computing device may generate a tag based on the processing result. The computing device may associate the generated tag with the data, wherein the tag is transmitted with the data outside the network environment where the data item is not accessible for processing outside the network environment, but the data tag is accessible. The computing device may provide the data and the tag for transmission.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 6, 2023Publication date: September 12, 2024Applicant: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Daniel Cameron Ellam, Adrian John Baldwin, Nelson L Chang, Stuart Lees

Publication number: 20240267286Abstract: In an example, a method is described. The method comprises receiving identifying information associated with an occurrence of an activity within a computing network. The method further comprises receiving an indication of a sequence value generated by a sequence function that iterates the sequence value in response to a metric associated with activity of the computing network triggering iteration of the sequence value. The method further comprises producing a data element representative of the identifying information by using the indicated sequence value as an input to a transformation function for at least partially concealing the identifying information when producing the data element.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 14, 2021Publication date: August 8, 2024Applicant: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: DANIEL ELLAM, ADRIAN JOHN BALDWIN, STUART LEES, NELSON CHANG

Publication number: 20240103970Abstract: In an example, a computing device includes a processor which in a reimaging operation of the computing device, may determine if a backup image to be used in the reimaging operation is available from a memory device connected to a local area network of the computing device. When the backup image is available from the memory device, the processor may acquire the backup image over the local area network. When the backup image is not available from the memory device, the processor may determine if a backup image is available from a wide area network of the computing device.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 23, 2022Publication date: March 28, 2024Inventors: Gaetan Wattiau, Adrian John Baldwin, Stuart Lees

Publication number: 20210357484Abstract: Example implementations relate to authentication invirtual reality systems. For example, a device comprising a generator engine can generate a stimulus, and display the stimulus to the user in a virtual environment. The device can receive an input from the user in response to the stimulus, via a receiver engine, and authenticate the user based on the input received via an authentication engine. Additionally, the device can obfuscate the received input from the user by preventing the input from being displayed in the virtual environment via an obfuscation engine.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 13, 2018Publication date: November 18, 2021Applicant: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Donald Gonzalez, Andrew Hunter, Stuart Lees

Publication number: 20210203671Abstract: In an example, there is provided a method for tracking domain name server (DNS) requests, wherein the method comprises determining whether a DNS request has resolved; and for each non-resolving DNS request decomposing the domain name of the request into multiple components, determining, for each component, a value of a metric representing the occurrence of the component in a corpus, generating a scaling factor for the request on the basis of the values for each component, and incrementing a count of the total number of non-resolving DNS requests by a scaled value on the basis of the scaling factor.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 18, 2018Publication date: July 1, 2021Applicant: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Adrian John Baldwin, Daniel Ellam, Jonathan Griffing, Stuart Lees

Patent number: 6061903Abstract: Inspection apparatus is disclosed for providing a visual indication of the proper merger of the conductive pins of an electrical component in the corresponding openings in a printed circuit board. The apparatus includes an inspection plate which has a plurality of channels defined between first and second opposite faces. In the channels are mounted a plurality of inspection pins which move between a first, rest position (countersunk with respect to the top surface of the inspection plate) and a second, extended position (flush with the plate's top surface). The inspection pins in the plate correspond in number and configuration to the component conductive pins but have a greater cross sectional area than that of the conductive pins. When the component is merged with the printed circuit board, each connector pin passes through the corresponding circuit board opening and pushes against the corresponding inspection pin to cause it to move to the extended position.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1998Date of Patent: May 16, 2000Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Stuart Lees, Noel Patrick Glancy

Patent number: 6012624Abstract: A tool for soldering pin-in-hole electronic circuit components includes a tool plate with a set of via holes corresponding to the holes of a circuit board on which a circuit component is soldered. The board is aligned with the tool plate and hot gas is supplied through the set of plate vias to reflow solder in the board holes. The tool is particularly suitable for use in removing and replacing pinned circuit components. Use of particular gases (e.g., nitrogen) allows soldering to be carried out without the use of flux. Advantages of the tool are that it prevents burning the circuit board and/or unintentionally reflowing other circuit components mounted on the board (by directing hot gas only substantially onto the circuit board's solder-containing holes).Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1998Date of Patent: January 11, 2000Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: William French, Stuart Lees, Colin David McCall, Kenneth Skene Murray, Brian Robertson
