  • Publication number: 20220379360
Abstract: A method of controlling a roll gap between first and second work rolls (102, 104) that includes defining a plurality of work surface locations spaced apart along the first work roll (102) in the longitudinal direction; obtaining a radius of the work surface (102a) of the first work roll (102) at each of the work surface locations; based on the radii of the work surface locations, obtaining a longitudinal profile of the work surface (102a); based on the longitudinal profile, tilting the first work roll (102) relative to the second work roll (104) in the common plane in order to reduce a difference in the average size of the gap either side of a centerline (CL), which bisects the longitudinal axes of the first and second work rolls (102, 104).

  • Patent number: 10421107
Abstract: Roller table apparatus (200; 300) for transporting a metallic product (P) to or from a mill stand, includes: first and second rolls (202a, 202b; 302a, 302b), outboard ends of the rolls are supported by respective outboard bearings and inboard ends of the rolls are supported by respective inboard bearings, such that each of the rolls is rotatable about its longitudinal axis (X1, X2); and at least one adjuster (216; 316a, 316b), movable in use to displace at least one end of the rolls or the respective bearings of the roll so as to adjust an angle (?) of inclination of each of the longitudinal axes of the rolls with respect to a datum (D), thereby to adjust a pass-line height (h1, h2) of the product relative to the datum.

  • Patent number: 10328471
Abstract: A rolling mill edger includes a pair of work rolls (1, 2) and a feed roll assembly. The assembly includes one or more driven feed rolls (23) and a drive for the feed rolls. The feed roll assembly is mounted on a moveable (25) mount such that the feed roll assembly is movable by pivoting the assembly between an operative rolling position (54) in the edger and a roll change position (55) out of the edger.

  • Patent number: 9433985
Abstract: A feed roll and stripper assembly for a rolling mill includes at least one feed roll at each of an entry side and an exit side of a pair of work rolls and a stripper at each of the entry and exit side of the pair of work rolls. Each stripper has a stripper tip. At least one of the strippers or feed rolls are adapted to have an adjustable vertical separation from one of the work rolls, according to the direction of movement of material through the work rolls. The vertical separation of the at least one stripper or feed roll from the one work roll on the entry or exit side is different from the vertical separation of the other at least one stripper or the feed roll on the other of the entry or exit side. Each stripper tip is separated from one of the work rolls.
