Patent number: 11140488Abstract: A diaphragm for use is a loudspeaker is described. This diaphragm may include a housing with an elongated shape having a length along a first axis that is longer than a width along a second axis. Moreover, the housing may include: an outer surface and an inner surface; an outer opening defined by an outer edge and an inner opening defined by an inner edge; and regions having heights relative to the inner surface, where the regions are grouped in pairs that are positioned equidistant and symmetrically about the inner opening along the first axis. Furthermore, the regions may have a second length along the first axis, and the second length may be less than a distance along the first axis between the outer edge and the inner edge. Note that the regions may increase a stiffness of the diaphragm relative to a stiffness of a material in the diaphragm.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2019Date of Patent: October 5, 2021Assignee: B&W Group Ltd.Inventors: Stuart Nevill, Ian Bickers

Publication number: 20060137935Abstract: A diaphragm for a loudspeaker drive unit (1), the diaphragm comprising a block of material having a first, sound-radiating front face (20) and a second, rear face (22). The block is stiffened by being bound about over the first and second faces (20,22) by a multiplicity of turns of one or more elongate members of flexible material (36) stiffened by a stiffening composition.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 7, 2004Publication date: June 29, 2006Applicants: B & W GROUP LTD.Inventor: Stuart Nevill

Publication number: 20050244031Abstract: A suspension, for the voice coil of a loudspeaker drive unit, includes an inner ring to be connected to the voice coil of the loudspeaker drive unit; an outer ring to be connected to the chassis of the loudspeaker drive unit; and a plurality of radial spoke-like members connecting the inner ring to the outer ring. The radial spoke-like members are free of compressive stress between their ends. The spoke-like members are of greater lateral stiffness than the spoke-like member's and are substantially X-shaped.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 1, 2003Publication date: November 3, 2005Applicant: B & W Loudspeakers LimitedInventor: Stuart Nevill

Patent number: 6906469Abstract: An rf ion source suitable for low power operation over a range of pressures in air which comprises discharge electrode, a cathode and an anode, the cathode being connected to an rf signal supply through an associated coupling means and the anode adapted to provide a surface area over which a plasma discharge may occur no greater than substantially that of the cathodal area over which the discharge may occur. The anode and cathode are arranged to be maneuverable with respect to one another in order to reduce the power requirements of the system and provide a means of controlling the rf discharge and ionization. An extended rf ion source, comprising a series of electrode pairs, provides flexibility for use in a variety of circumstances.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2001Date of Patent: June 14, 2005Assignee: The Secretary of State for DefenceInventors: Marian Lesley Langford, Stuart Neville Cairns, Andrew John Marr, Ian Blair Pleasants
