Abstract: An electronic reading device provides automatic adjustment of image display and key functionality. An actuator and a plurality of keys symmetrically control the electronic reading device. A built-in motion detection mechanism detects changes in the orientation of the electronic reading device. The content of the display and the functionality of the actuator and plurality of keys is automatically adjusted based on the orientation of the device such that the actuator and the plurality of keys perform identical functions in a current orientation as were performed in a previous orientation.
