Abstract: An aqueous viscoelastic composition is provided comprising at least one viscoelastic surfactant, and at least one hydrophobically modified polymer, which is formed from polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers; has a number average molecular weight of from 1,000 to 100,000 Da; and to a level of at least 0.1 mole %, based on the amount of monomer units in the polymer, contains monomeric units each covalently bonded to a pendant, optionally alkoxylated, hydrocarbyl group having from 6 to 40 carbon atoms, said pendant, optionally alkoxylated, hydrocarbyl group being connected to the backbone of said hydrophobically modified polymer via a non-ester containing linking group.

Abstract: Methods of controlling barium sulfate scale in oil field applications are disclosed. These methods involve the application of one or more carboxylated oligomers to an aqueous system in the oil field. Carboxylated oligomers include polymaleic acid and polyethercarboxylates. Additionally, methods of neutralizing polymaleic acid and use of this neutralized product for barium sulfate scale control are disclosed.

Abstract: Barium sulfate and/or calcium carbonate scale inhibitor composition composed of a water-soluble polymer having incorporated phosphate functionality, the polymer being formed from at least one ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, at least one ethylenically unsaturated vinyl sulfonate monomer, or a mixture thereof. The scale inhibitor composition can be used as a means of detecting inhibitor composition in downhole and topside oilfield treatments by means that are faster and more accurate than turbidometric measurement.
