  • Publication number: 20040124199
Abstract: The present invention provides a multi-stepped accessory holder for an appliance having accessories that have dissimilar inner diameter connections, such as accessories with a male and/or a female ends. The female end of an accessory has a first inner diameter, and the male end of an accessory has a second inner diameter. The accessory holder includes a base having a first perimeter, and an upper portion mounted atop the base that has a second perimeter. The second perimeter of the upper portion is smaller than the first perimeter of the base. When the female end of an accessory is placed upon the accessory holder, the female end engages the first perimeter of the base. If it is desired that an accessory's male end be placed upon the holder, the male end engages the second perimeter of the accessory holder's upper portion.

  • Publication number: 20030213090
Abstract: The present invention provides a holder for storing accessories on a wet/dry vacuum. The holder securely attaches to the vacuum and readily detaches therefrom. The detachable holder may be detached with the accessories. While an operator dumps debris out of the drum of the vacuum, detaching the holder prevents the accessories from being inadvertently spilled out of or discarded from the holder. The detachable accessory holder fully secures to a bracket attached to the vacuum. The secure attachment prevents the holder from falling off or tipping on the vacuum. To attach the holder to the bracket and vacuum, grooves on the holder are set on to an axle of the vacuum. As the holder is pivoted about the axle, tabs and a latch on the holder engage slots and a step on the bracket. To remove the holder, the operator presses on the latch and lifts the holder from the bracket and the appliance.

  • Patent number: 6378165
Abstract: The present invention is a handle used for pulling a wet/dry vacuum appliance and a mechanism for securely mounting such a handle to the lid of the vacuum. The mounting mechanism is designed for ease of assembly and reduced fastener cost. The handle is attached at two of its four attachment points by inserting journals molded into the sides of the handle into open bearing pockets molded in handle receiving recesses on the lid of the vacuum. The handle is then rotated into place and secured at the remaining two attachment points with suitable fasteners, such as screws. In certain embodiments of this invention, when the handle is rotated into position for attachment a locking slot in the bottom surface of the handle engages a rib provided in the handle receiving recess of the lid. This rib guides the handle as it rotates, prevents the journals from sliding back out of the bearing pockets, and locks the handle into the proper position for insertion of the fasteners.

A receptacle has first and second ends. The first end of the receptacle is adapted to be mounted to the article, and the second end is adapted to be connected to the second end of the first member. A locking member is mounted on one of the first member or the receptacle for securing the first member to the receptacle, and at least one sealing member is situated about one of the second end of the first member or the second end of the receptacle. This sealing member can be integrally mounted to one of the ends. In one embodiment, the sealing member seals against an external surface of the receptacle, and in an alternative embodiment, the sealing member seals against an internal surface of the receptacle.

  • Patent number: 6321410
Abstract: A wet/dry vacuum appliance having a lid and a collection canister is disclosed. A latching mechanism is provided for detachably affixing the lid atop the collection canister. In one embodiment, the latching mechanism comprises a pair of opposing latch members rotatably coupled to the lid. The latching members each have an upper, end adapted to engage journals formed on the lid. Each upper end is provided with retaining means for preventing the latch member from becoming disengaged from the journals. A lower end of each latching member is adapted to engage a latching element such as a rib formed on said collection canister.

  • Patent number: 6158083
Abstract: A wet/dry vacuum appliance having enhanced air-handling performance and reduced operating noise is described. In one embodiment, the collector scroll in a wet/dry vacuum is configured so as to isolate the vacuum's impeller from geometries prone to increase operating noise at particular frequencies. Further, the overall geometry and configuration of the air flow path through the power head of the vacuum is such that air-handling performance is enhanced even as noise levels are reduced. In the disclosed embodiment, the wet/dry vacuum is of the detachable power head type, although non-detachable power head implementations are contemplated.

  • Patent number: 6055700
Abstract: A vacuum appliance is disclosed, comprising a collection canister having a lid and a powerhead housing a motor and impeller assembly for establishing vacuum pressure within said canister. The powerhead is removably secured to the lid of the collection canister, such that the powerhead can be removed from the lid and separately used as a blower. Self-actuationg latching devices are provided for removably securing the powerhead to the lid. In one embodiment, the latching device is a unitary, multi-segmented structure having a spring biasing member and a retaining member formed integrally therewith. A journal formed integrally with the latching device is adapted to be received in a bearing defined in a latch socket on the lid, such that the latching device is allowed to pivot with respect to the lid. The spring biasing member functions to bias the latching device to a home pivot position, such that the latching device automatically engages the powerhead when it is lowered onto the lid.

  • Patent number: 6035485
Abstract: A combined muffler and air deflector apparatus for a vacuum cleaner includes a body having first and second ends, the first end adapted to be coupled to a blower port of a vacuum cleaner. A cap has a first end that defines an outlet, and a second end that is coupled to the second end of the body so that the body and the cap define a passageway for directing air from the blower port to the outlet. The outlet may be generally tapered such that air flowing through the passageway from the blower port is restricted. A device is situated in the passageway for muffling sound. In one embodiment, the sound muffling device comprises a divider that creates sound reflecting chambers. In another embodiment, an acoustical pad functions as the sound muffling device.

  • Patent number: 6008608
Abstract: A switch and speed control assembly for use in a wet/dry utility vacuum or blower is disclosed. The switch and speed control assembly provides a single rotary control actuator for turning the vacuum or blower on and off, for infinitely varying the speed of the motor, and for providing a momentary boost control. The switch and speed control assembly includes a thumb wheel fitted to the shaft of a voltage varying potentiometer, a snap action switch in operable relation to the exterior edge of the thumb wheel, and a compression spring contained beneath the thumb wheel. As the thumb wheel is rotated in an increasing "on" direction, the contacts of the snap action switch are closed, allowing electric current to flow to the motor of the wet/dry utility vacuum or blower. The voltage levels in the motor, and correspondingly the speed of the motor, are controlled by varying the potentiometer voltage through rotation applied to the thumb wheel.

  • Patent number: 5706550
Abstract: A floor brush nozzle assembly for a vacuum cleaner is disclosed. The floor brush nozzle assembly includes an elongated generally rectangular shaped nozzle housing including a connecting passageway for association with the vacuum cleaner. A U-shaped channel surrounds the nozzle housing for receiving an upper formed end of a floor brush. The U-shaped channel includes peripherally spaced ribs that cause a complementary U-shaped formed end of the floor brush to releasably and resiliently engage undercut areas in the U-shaped channel for releasably mounting the floor brush relative to the nozzle housing. The upper formed end of the floor brush may also have an undercut configuration to enhance releasable engagement with the undercut areas in the U-shaped channel. The upper formed end of the floor brush is preferably a metal component while the nozzle housing is a molded plastic component.
