  • Publication number: 20160352844
Abstract: A system and method for providing zone-specific media to a user. As a non-limiting example, various aspects of this disclosure provide a system and method that flexibly selects and provides media content (e.g., audio content), where such content is selected based, at least in part, on a user location (e.g., location within a premises).

    Publication date: December 1, 2016
Inventors: Bradley M. Starobin, Matthew Lyons, Stuart W. Lumsden, Michael DiTullo, Paul O'Connor
  • Publication number: 20160353217
Abstract: A multi-zone media system and method for providing multi-zone media. As a non-limiting example, various aspects of this disclosure provide a system and method that flexibly presents media content (e.g., audio content) to a user as the user moves throughout a premises.

  • Patent number: 9277044
Abstract: A transportable wireless loudspeaker 110 and system 100 for managing multi-user wireless media playback over a media playback system 100. Allows for multiple users on user devices 150 to share their media wirelessly by seamlessly switching between users (501, 601, 701) connected to the media playback system 100. The ability to have multiple users sharing their media provides for more sources of media to be played.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 5, 2014
Date of Patent: March 1, 2016
Inventors: Steven P. Kahn, Eric A. Sanders, Stuart W. Lumsden

  • Patent number: 9131311
Abstract: A canal phone incorporates a transducer within an isolation sound chamber for reproducing sound from an audio source, and a sound-transmission passageway, or ambient sound port, for allowing ambient sounds to enter the isolation sound chamber. The passageway has inner and outer apertures, one oriented towards the ambient noise environment outside of the listener's ear and the other oriented toward the isolated chamber formed by the space between a loudspeaker diaphragm within the canal phone and the tympanum of the listener's ear. The canal phone has a port blocking switch mechanism that selectively opens or closes the aperture of the passageway that is open to the ambient noise. This switch mechanism may also electrically disconnect the transducer and seal either the outer or the inner end of the passageway in different embodiments of the invention.

  • Patent number: 8634586
Abstract: A ceiling-mounted loudspeaker includes a horn-shaped enclosure, an acoustic driver, and a front module. The tubular or horn-shaped enclosure carries a slanted woofer or loudspeaker driver which radiates into an angled or slanted first opening. The tubular enclosure terminates at bottom in a second, circular opening substantially parallel to a second plane, wherein the woofer's slanted plane is inclined with respect to the second plane. The slanted woofer can be oval and radiates sound through the enclosure's interior lumen and outwardly through ports defined in a substantially circular baffle carrying the front module and connected to the second opening. The baffle carries a midrange and tweeter near the ceiling where they can provide enhanced sound dispersion.

  • Patent number: 4413162
Abstract: A moving coil transducer such as a loudspeaker has its coil formed of multiple strand or litz wire. The structure includes a form having multiple turns of the stranded wire thereon, and the leads or ends of the stranded wire forming the coil extend continuously from the moving coil structure to attachment or terminal means carried on some portion of a fixed structure associated with the moving coil. The multiple strand wire is twisted to a predetermined lay throughout its length.
