  • Patent number: 10316968
Abstract: An apparatus for ratio control of a continuously variable transmission includes a driver commanded ratio unit outputting a signal defining a commanded ratio. A clamp control portion is in communication with the driver commanded ratio unit. The clamp control portion includes: a ratio limits and override ring selecting a ratio matching the commanded ratio from an executable functions having stored ratio code data; a screening monitor continuously receiving output from the executable functions and using an input from a vehicle speed signal to compute minimum and maximum ratio limits for the ratio selected by the ratio limits and override ring; and a ratio control execution ring in communication with the screening monitor. The ratio control execution ring calculates a range of pressures allowed for operation of both primary and secondary pulleys of the continuously variable transmission.

  • Patent number: 6543570
Abstract: A steering gear (12) has a rack bar (36) and a housing (22). The rack bar (36) is movable linearly relative to the housing (22) for turning steerable wheels (68) of the vehicle. Movement of the rack bar (36) relative to the housing (22) is resisted by friction. An electric motor (14) is connected with the rack bar (36) and causes linear movement of the rack bar (36) relative to the housing (22). A controller (16), in response to a vehicle speed signal and a torsion signal, generates a motor control signal for controlling the electric motor (14). The controller (16) stores data indicative of the friction resisting movement of the rack bar (36) relative to the housing (22) of the steering gear (12). The controller (16) modifies the motor control signal to compensate for the friction.

  • Patent number: 5473231
Abstract: A steering assist system (10) providing assist in response to a steering control signal includes a vehicle speed sensor (56) for sensing vehicle speed and for providing a speed signal having a value indicative of the sensed vehicle speed and a torque sensor (44) operatively connected to a vehicle hand wheel (12) for providing a torque signal indicative of applied steering torque. A controller is connected to the vehicle speed sensor (56) and to the torque sensor (44). The controller includes an adaptive torque filter (80) that maintains a selectable system bandwidth independent of gain changes and vehicle speed changes. The adaptive filter (80) recovers any gain reduction by increasing the frequency of a filter pole.
