Patent number: 8848854Abstract: The present invention relates to an alternate feedwater injection system to at least partially mitigate the effects of an aircraft impact on a light water nuclear reactor positioned in a reactor building. The light water nuclear reactor has a primary system and a reactor core. The alternate feedwater injection system includes a water storage tank, an injection point into the primary system, a pump capable to transfer water from the water storage tank to the injection point and ultimately to the reactor core. The water storage tank and pump are located external to a reactor building and outside of an identified aircraft impact area or inside the identified aircraft impact area and provided with a means of protection from the aircraft impact.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2010Date of Patent: September 30, 2014Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Company LLCInventors: Nirmal Jain, James R. Publication number: 20020118273Abstract: An optical in situ information system includes a step of generating a pair of pictures of a synthetic object, takincg into account parameters of the viewing optical system. Next, the left and right eye (stereoscopic) ima(,es are appropriately combined with the respective real object as viewed through two separate oculars. The synthetic imaue can be made to overlay the image of the real object over a full three-demensional space.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 29, 1999Publication date: August 29, 2002Inventor: SUBHASH CHANDRA

Patent number: 5565987Abstract: This invention describes a surface profilometry system which measures the surface topography of a sample on a sub-nanometer scale. The surface profile is determined through measurement of the change in distance between two mirrors of a multi-pass resonant cavity that is referenced to a frequency stabilized laser source. The contact stylus is in contact with the sample as it is translated along the plane to be measured. As the stylus traverses the sample, it is vertically deflected and transfers the motion directly to one of the mirrors of a multi-pass resonant cavity. The cavity is referenced to a frequency stabilized laser source that is synchronized with the resonant modes of the multi-pass cavity. Very small sub-nanometer deviations of the cavity can be detected by monitoring the laser beam incident on the multi-pass cavity. There are two embodiments by which the cavity length changes can be measured.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1995Date of Patent: October 15, 1996Assignee: Anvik CorporationInventors: Kanti Jain, Subhash Chandra, Carl C.
