  • Publication number: 20240200162
Abstract: The present disclosure concerns processes and the combinations thereof for the enrichment and/or isolation of valuable metals from municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) ash. Included are processes of size separation, froth floatation, magnetic separation, specific gravity separation, chemical separation, as well as the removal of lime. BY utilizing two or more, circuits of treatment are also provided that allow for fractionation of enriched valuable metals(s) from which purification thereof can be readily achieved.

  • Publication number: 20240167122
Abstract: The present disclosure concerns using microstructural engineering techniques to remove or reduce impurity elements from molten aluminum alloys, such as scrap. The impurities are removed by cooling molten aluminum, resulting in the formation of impurity-rich intermetallic compounds containing only one or more impurity elements as solid inclusions. Subsequent removal of impurity-rich intermetallic sediments by decantation, centrifuge, and filtration techniques can provide an economical method for removing the desired amount of impurities to meet the product specifications.

  • Publication number: 20230416867
Abstract: The present disclosure concerns a Gas-Assisted Microbubble Extraction (GAME) system with an innovative dispersion module that can be used to efficiently separate and purify base metals and rare earth elements from various sources. The GAME system utilizes a three phase system of a gas phase, an organic phase, and an aqueous phase to efficiently extract low concentration metals from a solution.

  • Patent number: 10207296
Abstract: A material sorting system sorts materials, such as scrap pieces composed of unknown metal alloys, as a function of their detected x-ray fluorescence. The x-ray fluorescence may be converted into an elemental composition signature that is then compared to an elemental composition signature of a reference material in order to identify and/or classify each of the materials, which are then sorted into separate groups based on such an identification/classification. The material sorting system may include an in-line x-ray tube having a plurality of separate x-ray sources, each of which can irradiate a separate stream of materials to be sorted.
