  • Patent number: 5977245
Abstract: Low VOC automotive sealer compositions containing reactive urea/urethane compounds are disclosed. Sealers and tintable sealers utilyzing the reactive urea/urethane compounds have improved physical properties with a faster dry times without sacrificing other desirable properties. These compositions are found to be useful for automotive refinish according to this invention.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 25, 1997
Date of Patent: November 2, 1999

Inventors: Rajnikant P. Shah, Sudhakar Dantiki, Stewart Shepler
  • Patent number: 5922804
Abstract: A method for reducing the volatile organic content of coating compositions wherein first, the ketimine of acetone is formed by reacting acetone and a ketimine having the formula ##STR1## wherein n is 1 to 4, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 may be alkyl aryl, cycloaliphatic or substituted alkyl, aryl, or cycloaliphatic group. R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 may be the same or different, with the proviso that R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are not both CH.sub.3. R.sub.3 is an aliphatic, aromatic arylaliphatic or cycloaliphatic group, which may also contain O, N, S or Si. The ketimine of acetone is subsequently reacted with at least one isocyanate functional crosslinking resin.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 28, 1996
Date of Patent: July 13, 1999
    Assignee: BASF Corporation
Inventors: Bradley M. Richards, Sudhakar Dantiki
  • Patent number: 5661216
Abstract: A coating composition based on amines, aldimines and isocyanates which forms a polyurea coating or film. These coating compositions are especially useful in the automotive refinish industry due to the cure rate at ambient conditions. The coatings of these compositions can be useful for obtaining low VOC (Volatile Organic Content) levels.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 31, 1995
Date of Patent: August 26, 1997
    Assignee: BASF Corporation
Inventors: Thomas J. Laginess, Sudhakar Dantiki, Brian P. Koevenig, Rajnikant P. Shah
  • Patent number: 5214086
Abstract: Coating Compositions are disclosed which may be ambient cured and are especially useful in refinish paint compositions. The Coating Compositions comprise at least one hydroxy functional resin, at least one isocyanate functional resin and a aldimine or ketimine.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 4, 1991
Date of Patent: May 25, 1993
    Assignee: BASF Corporation
Inventors: Patrick J. Mormile, Sudhakar Dantiki, Daniel Guyomard, Stewart Shepler, Bradley M. Richards
  • Patent number: 5128059
Abstract: Blends of diaminoisopropylbenzene (DAIBP) and diaminoethylbenzene (DAEB) are provided for curing epoxy resins. The cured epoxy resins have increased tensile strength and slightly lower glass transition temperatures as compared with resins cured with either diamine alone.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 13, 1991
Date of Patent: July 7, 1992
Assignees: First Chemical Corporation, The University of Southern Mississippi
Inventors: Robson F. Storey, Arthur C. Bayer, Sudhakar Dantiki
  • Patent number: 5075379
Abstract: The use of a blend of diaminoisopropylbenzene (DAIPB) and an amine terminated butadiene nitrile liquid rubber (ATBN) for curing epoxy resins is provided. The DAIPB/ATBN blend produces a rubber toughened epoxy resin having improved tensile properties.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 10, 1990
Date of Patent: December 24, 1991
Assignees: First Chemical Corporation, The University of Southern Mississippi

  • Patent number: 4666978
Abstract: Method of promoting the cure of unsaturated polyester resins with a peroxide initiator at room or below room temperatures (low temperatures) by including as a promoter N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine (DMPT) or a blend of DMPT and N,N-dimethyl-m-toluidine (DMMT) and to the polyester composition containing such promoter. The use of the DMPT or blend of DMPT and DMMT as a promoter provides a fast cure at low temperatures without loss of physical properties of the cured resins.
