  • Publication number: 20220322185
Abstract: Embodiments described herein may provide for the return (e.g., reconnection) of a User Equipment (“UE”) to a first radio access network (“RAN”) to which the UE was connected, after the UE has been redirected to a second RAN based on the occurrence of an event. The event may include a voice call placed by or to the UE. The return of the UE to the first RAN may occur based on the occurrence of another event, such as the voice call being terminated.

  • Publication number: 20220311826
Abstract: A first component may receive a message from a anchor selection component in a network. The message may include information that identifies a session anchor in the network and indicates a location of the session anchor. The first component may identify a managing component in the network based on the information and signal the managing component. The signaling may cause the managing component to be configured to forward data, from a mobile terminal attached to the network over a wireless link, to the session anchor.

  • Patent number: 11456937
Abstract: A system described herein may provide a technique for the proactive failover of groups of Virtualized Network Functions (“VNFs”) based on monitoring Key Performance Indicators (“KPIs”) associated with the VNFs. KPIs associated with a particular VNF or a set of VNFs may be monitored, and a failover event indicating service degradation or imminent service degradation may be detected based on the KPIs associated with the particular VNF or set of VNFs. Additional VNFs, associated with the particular VNF or set of VNFs, may be further identified for failover from a first data center to a second data center. The additional VNFs may be identified for failover without necessarily monitoring KPIs associated with the additional VNFs, and/or based on factors in addition to KPIs associated with the additional VNFs. For example, the additional VNFs may be failed over based on the KPIs associated with the particular VNF or set of VNFs.

  • Publication number: 20220304098
Abstract: An improved cellular network architecture enables the distribution of Radio Resource Control (RRC) inactive state to devices in a core network. A mobility manager receives subscription requests from core network devices requesting notification of user equipment (UE) transitions to RRC Inactive states. Upon receiving an RRC transition report for a UE that indicates a transition to an RRC Inactive state, the mobility manager publishes an event including data representing the RRC inactive state and a UE identifier. Subscribing network elements receive this event and can adjust operations accordingly, including temporarily suspending operations until a further RRC state change.

  • Publication number: 20220303794
Abstract: A network device may receive historical data identifying historical error data and error data categorizations associated with a first core network and may store the historical data in a data structure. The network device may receive a request associated with a user equipment and may receive error data from the first core network based on the request. The network device may receive network health data identifying load levels and health of the first core network and a second core network. The network device may determine possible cause data identifying causes associated with the error data based on the historical data, the error data, and the network health data. The network device may generate a cause code for the user equipment based on the possible cause data and may provide the cause code to the user equipment.

  • Publication number: 20220303793
Abstract: A first network function (NF) instance sends a request for a session to a second NF instance. The first NF instance receives a response, from the second NF instance, that includes a binding header that includes a failover mode identifier, a designated number of retry attempts, and a retry mode. The first NF instance sends a second request for the session to the second NF instance. The first NF instance determines if an error or a timed out response has occurred subsequent to sending the second request to the second NF instance, and re-sends, in response to the error or timed out response, the second request based on the failover mode identifier, the designated number of retry attempts and the retry mode from the binding header.

  • Publication number: 20220295380
Abstract: Systems and methods described herein employ an allocation and retention priority for user equipment (UE), referred to as a UE ARP. The UE ARP may be defined per network slice, such that a subscriber can have different priority in different slices. According to one implementation, a network device receives, from a UE device, a registration request requesting access to a network slice and obtains a UE ARP. The UE ARP associates the UE device with a priority level on the network slice. When the network device determines that a maximum number of terminals are using the network slice, it applies the priority level in the UE ARP to grant or deny the UE device access to the network slice.

  • Patent number: 11432158
Abstract: In some implementations, a device of a network may receive, from a user equipment (UE), a request associated with enabling the UE to access a network, wherein the request includes a first routing indicator. The device may identify an authentication manager, of the network, that is mapped to the first routing indicator in an entry of a routing table of the network. The device may route the request to the authentication manager of the network to permit the authentication manager to authenticate the UE. The device may purge, based on the request being routed to the authentication manager, the entry to remove the first routing indicator from the routing table. The device may store, after purging the entry, a second routing indicator in the entry to map the second routing indicator to the authentication manager, wherein the second routing indicator is different from the first routing indicator.

  • Publication number: 20220264432
Abstract: A system described herein may provide a technique for location-based handling of discovery requests in a service-based network in which different instances of network functions (“NFs”) may be deployed in geographically diverse locations. For example, a Network Repository Function (“NRF”) may maintain location information for the various NF instances and may respond to discovery requests by identifying particular NF instances based on locations associated with the discovery requests. For example, such discovery requests may include a “preferred-locality” parameter or some other indication of location associated with the discovery request, based on which the NRF may identify one or more NF instances to provide in response to the discovery request.

  • Publication number: 20220264374
Abstract: Systems and methods described herein use group segmentation of applications (referred to herein as “slicing classes”), based on common service requirements, to allow carriers to assign UE traffic to network slices. A UE stores slicing class definitions for use with UE Route Selection Policies (URSP). Each of the slicing class definitions include network quality of service (QoS) characteristics that are applicable to network traffic for multiple software applications. The UE maps the software applications to corresponding slicing class identifiers associated with the slicing class definitions. The UE also stores URSP rules for associating a slicing class identifier with a network slice identifier. A UE operating system sends, to a modem, one of the slicing class identifiers for an application that is requesting attachment to a wireless network. The modem sends a registration request with a selected network slice identifier based on the received slicing class identifier and the URSP rules.

  • Patent number: 11418957
Abstract: A device may receive, from a network device, a user equipment (UE) parameter update request notification indicating an update to a UE parameter of a universal subscriber identity module (USIM), and may generate an encrypted UE parameter update request. The device may cause the encrypted UE parameter update request to be provided to the USIM to cause the USIM to update the UE parameter and to generate an encrypted UE parameter update response. The device may receive, from the network device, the encrypted UE parameter update response, and may verify an authenticity of content of the encrypted UE parameter update response based on whether the encrypted UE parameter update response is signed by the USIM. The device may provide, to the network device, a result indicating whether the UE parameter is updated and whether the authenticity of the content of the encrypted UE parameter update response is verified.

  • Patent number: 11412368
Abstract: Systems and method are provided to reduce redundant data transfers for service profiles within a wireless core network. A network device in the core network receives, from a mobility management entity (MME), a user profile request. The user profile request includes a user identifier for an end device. The network device determines that a user profile corresponding to the user identifier includes a shared service profile and determines, when the user profile includes a shared service profile, whether the MME has stored the shared service profile. When the MME has not stored the shared service profile, the network device sends, to the MME, the shared service profile and a shared profile identifier for the shared service profile. The network device sends, to the MME, a response to the user profile request, the response including the user identifier and the shared profile identifier for the shared service profile.
