  • Publication number: 20050230305
Abstract: This abstract discusses producing mixed matrix composite (MMC) membranes with a good balance of permeability and selectivity. MMC membranes are particularly needed for separating fluids in oxygen/nitrogen separation processes, processes for removing carbon dioxide from hydrocarbons or nitrogen, and the separation of hydrogen from petrochemical and oil refining streams. MMC Membranes made using washed sieve material, such as washed SSZ-13 sieve material, provide surprisingly good permeability and selectivity. The method of the current invention produces a fluid separation membrane by providing a polymer and a washed molecular sieve material, then synthesizing a concentrated suspension of a solvent, the polymer, and the washed molecular sieve material. The concentrated suspension is used to form the fluid separation membrane of the desired configuration. Membranes of the current invention can be formed into hollow fiber membranes that are particularly suitable for high trans-membrane pressure applications.

  • Publication number: 20040159233
Abstract: A method of separating or concentrating hydrocarbon-containing gas mixtures such as hydrogen from hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide from hydrocarbons, nitrogen from hydrocarbons, and hydrocarbons from one another using a selectively permeable membrane. The method is well suited to separate hydrocarbon-containing mixtures such as those generated by petroleum refining industries, petrochemical industries, natural gas processing, and the like. The membranes exhibit extremely good resistance to plasticization by hydrocarbon components in the gas mixture under practical industrial process conditions.

  • Patent number: 5495386
Abstract: An improved electrical component, such as a capacitor, is fabricated from a porous plug formed from metal impregnated with a ceramic material. In the case of a capacitor, the ceramic material is a dielectric composition. A metal which does not oxidize at temperatures close to the ceramic sintering temperature can be used to fabricate the plug. A first lead is attached directly to the plug. The plug is infiltrated and coated with a layer of the ceramic material. The plug which is infiltrated and coated with ceramic material is fired to sinter the dielectric. A second lead is then attached to the layer of ceramic and if a dielectric ceramic composition was used, then a capacitor is formed.

  • Patent number: 5216573
Abstract: A method for manufacturing ceramic capacitors of the lead filled type comprises coating the end surfaces of a ceramic monolith having internal voids opening to the ends with a termination paste. The paste includes glass frit, a metal component wettable by lead, i.e. silver, binder and solvent, the characterizing feature of the paste being the inclusion of reducible metal salts of a metal wettable by lead, the salts undergoing volumetric diminution when reduced from the salt to the metallic state. When the termination paste is sintered, reduction of the metallic salt provides the termination with a porous latticework. Molten lead or lead alloys are injected through the now porous, sintered termination paste. The disclosure further relates to a capacitor made in accordance with the method described.
