Patent number: 12152151Abstract: An adhesive mixture comprising an organic slurry dispersion for use in the manufacture of wood-based composites is described herein. The adhesive mixture includes an adhesive resin; water; one or more fillers, and an organic slurry dispersion. The organic slurry dispersion includes water; a natural biopolymer insoluble in the water, the natural biopolymer comprising lignocelluloses, lignocellulosic agricultural residue, lignin materials, lignin derivatives or mixtures thereof; and a defoamer. During manufacturing, the components of the organic slurry dispersion are combined and mixed by imparting a high degree of shear and mixing. The adhesive mixture may be applied to wood material for use in manufacturing a wood-based composite product.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2022Date of Patent: November 26, 2024Assignee: The Willamette Valley Company LLCInventors: Jesse L. Paris, Sudip Chowdhury, Robert Joe Rubash, Kyleigh Danielle Rhodes

Patent number: 12054615Abstract: An organic slurry for use in wood-based composites is described herein. In one aspect, the organic slurry may include water, a lignin material insoluble in the water, such as dewatered kraft lignin, and a defoamer. During manufacturing, the water, lignin material and defoamer may be combined and mixed together in a vessel to produce the organic slurry. In one aspect, the defoamer may include a water-based defoamer, a silicone-based defoamer, a silicone-free defoamer, an oil-based defoamer, a polymer-based defoamer, or mixtures thereof. The organic slurry may have a pH less than neutral.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2023Date of Patent: August 6, 2024Assignee: The Williamette Valley Company LLCInventors: Jesse L. Paris, Matthew G. Peterson, James A. Livings, Sudip Chowdhury, Curtis G. Burton

Patent number: 9920228Abstract: The disclosed composite wood particulate products, adhesives contained in such wood particulate products, and methods of making the adhesive and the wood particulate products employ an aldehyde-free adhesive, and more specifically a formaldehyde-free adhesive. The aldehyde-free adhesive includes an inert additive that extends a resin, such as an isocyanate resin, and forms an evenly dispersed, less expensive polymeric adhesive admixture. The extender-filler of the resin is mixed with water to form a slurry. The slurry can then be mixed with a resin, like the isocyanate resin, to form the adhesive. Various rheology modifiers can be added, if desired, to the extender-filler or the slurry. The adhesive can be blended with wood particles to form a mat that is then pressed into a composite wood particulate product.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2017Date of Patent: March 20, 2018Assignee: The Willamette Valley Company LLCInventors: Philip N. Cote, Omar Tiba, Wallace K. Rowland, Robert J. Rubash, Randall C. Zenke, Sudip Chowdhury
