  • Patent number: 8486079
Abstract: A method and apparatus for remote alignment of a cut guide. The cut guide may be positioned on a base which is remote from a surgical site and positioned on a docking station. An alignment jig is removably positioned on a bone and is used to provide alignment information to the docking station. The docking station remotely aligns the cut guide relative to the base. Thereafter, the cut guide and base are removed from the docking station and positioned on the bone in place of the alignment jig. A surgical procedure using the cut guide may then be completed.

  • Patent number: 7658741
Abstract: A multi-positionable cut guide including a bone attachment device, base, and guide member. Bone attachment device is adapted to be coupled to the bone and has a base receiving portion. Base includes a mounting portion slideably coupled to base receiving portion such that base is slideable relative to attachment device along at least one dimension. Guide housing is pivotally mounted to base and guide member is rotatably mounted to guide housing. Guide member defines an axis about which it is rotatable. Guide member defines an elongated guide slot extending along the axis and adapted to receive and guide a saw for resecting the end of the bone. Guide slot defines a cut guide plane, the position of which is adjustable relative to the bone via sliding of base along at least one dimension, pivoting of the guide housing relative to base, and rotation of guide member about the axis.

  • Publication number: 20060155293
Abstract: The present invention relates to a bone-cutting guide intended to be temporarily positioned against a resected bone surface at a bone-cutting surface. The bone-cutting guide is also positioned at at least one secondary bone surface, and configured to receive a cutting member to cut the bone at the bone-cutting surface. The bone-cutting guide includes a tower and a paddle extending from the tower. The paddle is configured to be positioned at the bone-cutting surface, and has a cutting tool receiving portion configured and arranged to receive the cutting member to cut the bone at the bone-cutting surface. The bone-cutting guide also includes a base extending from the tower and configured to be positioned on the resected bone surface. The base has at least one bone-engaging surface configured and arranged to be positioned at the at least one secondary bone surface. An angle adjuster is provided for adjusting the angle between the tower and the base in the plane of the resected bone surface.

  • Publication number: 20050215888
Abstract: A universal tracking apparatus for a surgical instrument, the tracking apparatus including a support arm and tracking array. The support arm allows position adjustment of the tracking array between a number of predefined orientations relative to the instrument which are recognizeable and registerable in the navigation system. The support arm may be coupled with multiple types of surgical instruments and used to accurately define the position of the instrument in an anatomical model generated by the navigation system. The adjustable coupling between the tracking array and the support arm allows the surgeon to determine which orientation is best suited for the surgical application and also allows the surgeon to adjust the position of the tracking array during a surgical procedure without the need to re-register the tracking apparatus.
