  • Patent number: 8516186
Abstract: A RAM disk driver 112 receives the user's specification for the capacity of a RAM disk 122 via an operation screen image 10 (step S20). The RAM disk driver 112 sets a continuous region in an OS invisible area, which is beyond management of an operating system installed in a computer, on a RAM 120 for a storage area of the RAM disk 122 having the user's specified capacity (step S30). When the user's specified capacity is greater than the capacity of the OS invisible area on the RAM 120, the RAM disk driver 112 reduces the range of an OS visible area, which is managed by the operating system, on the RAM 120 and sets the storage area of the RAM disk 122 in the expanded OS invisible area. This arrangement effectively boosts up access to the RAM 120 as the primary storage in the computer.

  • Patent number: 8413242
Abstract: After an initialization process (S10), the access controller of the external storage device performs authentication using a password (S20, S30). If authentication is successful, the successfully authenticated state is saved, and the host computer is notified that the HD storage portion is accessible (S40). Subsequently, it is decided whether SOF packets are being periodically sent from the host computer (S50), and if periodic sending has been interrupted (S50: NO), the connection to the host computer will be deemed lost, and the saved authenticated state will be deleted (S60).

  • Patent number: 8244940
Abstract: A peripheral device of the invention is capable of data communication with a host device via one of a first-type interface and a second-type interface having different data communication-related specifications. The peripheral device has a single connector for making electric connection selectively with a first-type connector or a second-type connector. The peripheral device also has a controller for performing an initial connection process that makes a logical connection between the peripheral device and the host device via the first-type interface or the second-type interface. While the physical connection is maintained, the controller breaks the logical connection established by the initial connection process and subsequently makes another logical connection between the peripheral device and the host device.

  • Patent number: 8166317
Abstract: An electronic device has: an operation unit; a power supply unit; an input changeover switch; and a controller. The power supply unit is supplied commercial power and supplies the operating power to the operation unit. The input changeover switch switches between supplying or not supplying the commercial power to the power supply unit. The controller controls the input changeover switch. The controller includes: a power input portion; a control signal input portion; and a switching signal output portion. When the device power is being supplied from a master electronic device to the power input portion and the control signal from the master electronic device is received by the control signal input portion, the switching signal output portion outputs to the input changeover switch a signal instructing to switch and supply the commercial power to the power supply unit.

  • Publication number: 20110060877
Abstract: When a hard disk drive 200 is initially connected, the CPU 110 of a personal computer 100 assigns respective drive letters to a virtual CD-ROM drive area 222 and a hard disk drive 224 in the hard disk drive 200, and records information relating the drive letter assignments as drive letter information in the registry. The CPU 110 then executes auxiliary application software stored in the virtual CD-ROM drive area 222 to delete and disable assignment of a drive letter to the virtual CD-ROM drive area 222.

  • Publication number: 20100332854
Abstract: A storage device with an authentication feature providing enhanced convenience during locking. The device is a USB hard disk designed for connection to a personal computer, and includes a disk, an access controller, and a push-button. The access controller includes an encryption/decryption module 35; and, as functions executed by the CPU, an authentication module, an authenticated status holding module, and a decryption restricting module. When the push-button is depressed (S210: YES), the access controller resets itself (Step S220). When the access controller is reset, the startup control routine is executed again, and the access controller enters the locked state requiring password authentication by an operator.

  • Publication number: 20100241875
Abstract: The external storage device has a read-only section and a read/write enabled section in a storage section. In the read-only section there is stored an antivirus software detection program adapted to detect the presence of antivirus software installed on a host computer. When the external storage device is connected to the host computer, the antivirus software detection program will be executed automatically by the host computer. When a storage section access controller provided to the external storage device receives from the antivirus software detection program a notification that the presence of antivirus software has been detected, it will allow writing to the read/write enabled section.
