  • Patent number: 8398354
Abstract: A bookbinding apparatus for trimming sheets includes an adhesive applying device for applying adhesive to a back of the sheets; a trimming blade disposed in a trimming position; a bunch position changing device disposed in a transport path to change a position of the sheets in the trimming position; a blade receiving member having at least first and second blade receiving areas with different blade receiving surfaces contacting with the trimming blade; a driving device positioning the trimming blade between a cut position for bringing the trimming blade into contact with the blade receiving member and a spaced waiting position; a shift device selectively shifting one of the first and second blade receiving areas to a predetermined trimming position, and a control device for controlling the shift means and the driving means.

  • Patent number: 7920820
Abstract: A bookbinding apparatus includes a collecting device, a bookbinding path, a bundle conveying device for transferring the sheet bundle to a paste applying position and then to a cover binding position, a paste applying device for applying an adhesive to a spine part of the sheet bundle, and a cover feeding path. A cover binding device binds the sheet bundle with the adhesive to the cover sheet, and a cover binding control device controls the cover binding device. The cover binding device includes a back folding press member and a back abutting plate member. The cover sheet is sandwiched between the back abutting plate member and the spine part of the sheet bundle with a small gap between the back abutting plate member and the spine part. The cover binding control device adjusts a size of the gap depending on a thickness of the cover sheet when folded back.

  • Publication number: 20090035095
Abstract: Bookbinding unit to avert sheets coming loose and other problems that, due to adhesive leakage in coating an adhesive onto a sheaf and pasting on a cover sheet, lead to poor binding. Provided with unit housing, sheaf retainer for retaining in an adhesive-application position sheets collated into book blocks, adhesive container for storing hot-melt adhesive, heater built-in to the adhesive container for melting the adhesive at a predetermined temperature, temperature controller for controlling the heater, applicator for applying adhesive to sheaves, and cover binder disposed downstream of the adhesive-application location for binding sheaves coated with adhesive together with cover sheets. The controller has a first sensor for detecting the adhesive temperature the adhesive container, and a second sensor for detecting ambient temperature inside the unit housing, and controls the heating temperature of the heater according to the temperatures detected by the first and second sensors.
