Patent number: 9497714Abstract: A power calibration scheme adjusts power levels of network of femtocells based on macro signals seen at different points in and around a coverage area and based on the mutual positions of the femtocells (e.g., based on femtocell signals seen at these points). The power calibration scheme thus facilitates a good balance between providing a desired level of coverage and mitigation of interference to nearby macrocells and femtocells.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2011Date of Patent: November 15, 2016Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Sumeeth Nagaraja, Farhad Meshkati, Mehmet Yavuz, Suhas Mitra, Varun Khaitan, Vansh Pal Singh Makh, Chirag Sureshbhai Patel, Yeliz Tokgoz, Cong Shen

Patent number: 9451480Abstract: Methods and apparatus for communication comprise aspects that include performing a power management procedure for configuring a subset of network entities to receive one or more of downlink signal measurements and/or one or more uplink signal measurements. The methods and apparatus further comprise aspects that include storing the one or more one or more of downlink signal measurements and/or one or more uplink signal measurements associated with the subset of network entities at a database for managing transmit power at the subset of network entities. Moreover, the methods and apparatus comprise aspects that include adjusting a transmit power value of at least one of the subset of network entities from a first transmit power value to a second transmit power value based at least in part on the one or more of downlink signal measurements and/or one or more uplink signal measurements.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 2014Date of Patent: September 20, 2016Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Yichao Huang, Chirag Sureshbhai Patel, Tamer Adel Kadous, Mehmet Yavuz, Lili Zhang, Rajat Prakash, Vinay Chande, Christophe Chevallier, Sumeeth Nagaraja, Farhad Meshkati, Suhas Mitra, Vansh Pal Singh Makh, Yeliz Tokgoz, Cong Shen, Varun Khaitan

Patent number: 7224970Abstract: A wireless station (114) is within range of more than one access point (120, 124) transmitting on the same channel. The wireless station is associated with one access point and not the other. Consequently the wireless station may receive undesired beacons (304) and desired beacons (302) on the channel. To optimize power save operation the wireless station arbitrates between a scan and shut down scanning procedure (708) and a timed window channel scanning procedure (724), depending on whether the desired beacon is the first received beacon upon waking up from a low power state at a target beacon time.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2004Date of Patent: May 29, 2007Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Brian K. Smith, Suhas Mitra

Publication number: 20060146769Abstract: A wireless local area network (WLAN) mobile station (110, 112, 114) has an application processor core (204) and a WLAN processor (202). So as to conserve energy, when the two processors are not needed, they are both placed in a minimal power consumption mode. The WLAN processor operates a WLAN radio and receives beacon transmissions from an access point (120). Upon extracting the beacon data from a received beacon signal, the WLAN processor passes the beacon data to the application processor. To ensure receipt of the beacon data, the WLAN processor remains active until the application processor acknowledges receipt of the beacon data before transitioning back to a sleep mode. To prevent keeping the WLAN processor waiting longer than necessary, the application processor wakes up ahead of the beacon receipt time, in time to allow transition to an awake mode so that it is active by the time the WLAN processor passes the beacon data.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 31, 2004Publication date: July 6, 2006Inventors: Anil Patel, Suhas Mitra, Carlos Rivera-Cintron, Brian Smith
