    Abstract: An electrical switching method may include: preparing a semiconductor material layer comprising a first contact point and a second contact point, which are electrically separated from each other, and a semiconductor material connecting the first contact point and the second contact point and having a predetermined thickness; and, in order to control the electrical connection between the first contact point and the second contact point, causing phase transition of the semiconductor material to a topological insulator by applying an electric field having a direction perpendicular to the surface of the semiconductor material to the semiconductor material layer. The electric field has a magnitude determined by the maximum value of the valence band and the minimum value of the conduction band of the semiconductor material. Applying an electric field to shift the valence and conduction bands closer induces a spin-polarized surface state through spin-orbit coupling between both surface wave functions.
