  • Publication number: 20250096788
Abstract: Shoot-through current flows when a pull-up transistor and a pull-down transistor in series both turn ON at the same time, such as due to noise. The transistor that should be OFF has an OFF drain-source voltage that is high when the other transistor is ON, but quickly falls when the OFF transistor erroneously turns on. A shoot-through protection circuit compares the OFF drain-source voltage of the OFF transistor to a reference voltage. When the OFF drain-source voltage falls below the reference voltage, a fault is signaled. The fault signal immediately disables the ON transistor by driving its gate inactive (low) to stop the shoot-through current. The reference voltage may be a fraction of the power voltage, such as 30% of a 400-volt input power bus, providing over 100 volts noise immunity, preventing false triggering yet immediately blocking current when the reference voltage is passed without waiting for a blanking period.

  • Patent number: 11043891
Abstract: Described is a controller for an AC to DC or a DC to AC multi-phase power converter of a type having N power converter phases, where N is greater or equal to 2. The controller comprises a control module configured to change or vary a phase shift angle of the input current or output current for each of the N power converter phases such that an average phase shift value for each of said N power converter phases over a control module AC line cycle is about, near or substantially the same value. In an embodiment of an AC/DC or a DC/AC multi-phase power converter of a type having N power converter phases arranged in parallel, an advantage of arranging the average phase shift value for each power converter phase to be substantially equal or about equal over an AC line cycle is that it reduces or eliminates any imbalances in the input currents or output currents of the N power converter phases.

  • Patent number: 10848066
Abstract: Described is a controller for a DC/DC converter of a type having N power stages, where N is a natural number greater or equal to 2. The controller comprises a decision maker module, a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) or proportional-integral (PI) control module and a transient compression control module. The decision maker module determines a first steady state mode of operation and a second transient mode of operation and is configured to switch control between said first steady state mode of operation to said second transient mode of operation when an operating parameter of one of the N power stages exhibits a predetermined operating condition relative to a predetermined operating limit and/or a predetermined, calculated or selected threshold. The PID or PI module regulates the operating parameter during said first steady state mode of operation.

  • Patent number: 10594318
Abstract: An electric circuit arrangement and a method for generating electric current pulses to a load, the electric circuit arrangement including a switch and a current source in series connection with the load; wherein the switch is arranged to operate in at least an on state and an off state, thereby selectively connecting or disconnecting the current source to or from the load so as to generate the electric current pulses. With such architecture, the circuit performs with a better efficiency than a cascaded architecture.

  • Patent number: 9819339
Abstract: A circuit for reducing collector-emitter voltage (VCE) overshoot in an insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) is provided. The circuit includes circuitry operable to generate a pulse which has a rising edge synchronized to the moment when collector or emitter current of the IGBT begins to fall during turn-off of the IGBT and a width which is a fraction of a duration of the VCE overshoot. The circuitry is further operable to combine the pulse with a control signal applied to a gate of the IGBT so as to momentarily raise the gate voltage of the IGBT during turn-off of the IGBT to above a threshold voltage of the IGBT for the duration of the pulse. A corresponding method of reducing VCE overshoot in an IGBT also is provided.
