  • Patent number: 9282503
Abstract: A wireless communications device, and a method of operating a wireless communications device, the device operative to receive broadcast system information from a network, the device being arranged to: receive first broadcast system information, said first broadcast system information defining scheduling information for a plurality of items of further broadcast system information; define a subset containing a plurality of items of further broadcast system information; receive an item of further broadcast system information relating to whether transmit diversity is in use; when it is determined that the device has received further broadcast system information relating to whether transmit diversity is in use, wait until one of the following conditions has been met before implementing on the device any changes in transmit diversity as defined by the further broadcast system information relating to whether transmit diversity is in use: i) the device having received all members of the subset of further broadcast sy

  • Patent number: 8825047
Abstract: A method and apparatus for searching for and reporting Public Land Mobile Networks “PLMNs” in a mobile telecommunications system, the method comprising, at a mobile device: initiating a scan to find Public Land Mobile Networks; when a cell of a PLMN is detected on a frequency, then reading system information to determine one or more PLMN identities of the detected cell; determining whether the detected cell operates in a frequency band supported by the mobile device; when it is determined that the detected cell does not operate in a band supported by the device, omitting adding the associated one or more PLMN identities from a first of PLMNs, and otherwise adding the one or more PLMN identities to the list of PLMNs; and reporting the list of PLMNs.

  • Patent number: 8804657
Abstract: A method, in a wireless communications device having a first protocol stack for use with a first radio access technology and a second protocol stack for use with a second radio access technology, the method for transitioning from a first radio access technology to a second radio access technology, the method comprising: maintaining a list of available communication cells associated with the second radio access technology, and transferring information associated with more than one available communication cell associated with the second radio access technology from the first protocol stack to the second protocol stack.

  • Publication number: 20120100846
Abstract: Methods of assessing a cell to be a failed cell are provided that are based on the non-acquisition of system information. The method involves assessing whether or not a cell has failed as a function of whether, upon determining that system information needs to be acquired, the system information is acquired or not within a defined time period.

  • Publication number: 20090298459
Abstract: Apparatus and a method for handling out of service emergency calls in a wireless telecommunications system user equipment (UE) are disclosed. When an emergency call is initiated on a UE when the UE is in an out of service area, the UE in response to the initiating of an emergency call initiates a search for an acceptable cell rather than continuing with a search for suitable cells. The UE checks whether an acceptable cell is found. If an acceptable cell is found then the emergency call is connected.
