    Abstract: A detecting method, an apparatus, and a system in an Optical Distribution Network (ODN) are provided. The method includes: an Optical Line Termination (OLT) reserves a test window, and an Optical Network Unit (ONU) stops sending an uplink signal in the test window, the OLT emits a downlink test signal having a wavelength the same as that of the uplink signal in the test window, the OLT receives backward signals of the downlink test signal, in which the backward signals include a backward scattered signal and a backward reflected signal, processes the backward signals, and obtains state information of the ODN according to the backward signals. The method does not need to add other hardware, and the downlink signal is sent normally in the downlink. The implementation is low in the cost and easy in the technology.

The method includes: obtaining monitoring information of an Optical Line Terminal (OLT) and an Optical Network Unit (ONU); and determining a failure of a passive ONU according to the obtained monitoring information of the OLT and the ONU. The monitoring information of the peer device is obtained before a PON system failure occurs. Thus the failure is discovered in time, quick troubleshooting is ensured, and the costs of system maintenance are reduced.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to an optical network terminal (ONT), a method for configuring rate limiting attributes of ports, and a method for processing packets. The ONT includes a passive optical network (PON) protocol processing module, and a user network interface (UNI) module, which are connected through an internal interface. The ONT also includes a port rate limiting module connected to a UNI. The port rate limiting module stores rate limiting attributes, and the ONT uses these attributes to control the traffic of the UNI. The port rate limiting attributes are configured for the ONT through an ONT management and control interface (OMCI) message of an optical line terminal (OLT). In this way, when the ONT receives data from the UNI, it can control the traffic of the UNI according to the port rate limiting attributes.

    Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for identifying an optical network unit (ONU) in an optical access system, including: receiving uplink signals sent by a plutality of ONUs through a shared optical transmission path; extracting detection signals from the uplink signals, and obtaining signal characteristics of the detection signals; and comparing the signal characteristics with a reference characteristic value, and determining, according to a result of the comparison, whether the multiple ONUs that send the uplink signals include a point-to-point connection-based (P2P) ONU. Through the method for identifying an ONU in an optical access system, when P2P ONU is mistakenly connected into a point-to-multipoint (P2MP) connection-based optical access system, a fault alarm can be raised quickly, which facilitates system maintenance and troubleshooting. The present invention further discloses an optical access system, an optical line terminal, and an optical module.
