Abstract: A device may receive an indication to perform a reboot associated with a network service being provided using a first virtual machine (VM) running on the device. The device may launch, based on receiving the indication, a second VM on the device. The device may shut down, based on launching the second VM, the first VM. The device may configure the second VM for forwarding control plane traffic associated with the network service. The device may configure, based on configuring the second VM for forwarding the control plane traffic, the second VM for forwarding data plane traffic associated with the network service. The device may provide, based on configuring the second VM for forwarding the data plane traffic, the network service using the second VM.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a method for batch processing received message packets. A plurality of message packets are sent in a batch from a network access layer device to a network layer component based upon a blanking NIC interrupt. The network layer component classifies the plurality of message packets and batches them together per transport connection. The network layer component then sends batches for each transport connection to a transport layer component for transport layer processing.

Abstract: An enhanced VPD structure includes a type field to indicate whether a particular property is a general property to be associated with an interface card or other computer system component, or a device- or function-specific property to be associated with one or more devices or functions. The enhanced VPD structure also includes fields for identifying the device(s) and/or function(s) to which a device- or function-specific property applies, along with the value of the property, a data type and length of the property, and a meaningful name of the property. The enhanced VPD structure may be accessed during system boot, during hot-swapping of an interface card or other component, or at other times.
