Patent number: 9172490Abstract: A computer implemented method provisions optical wavelength connections. A set of applications is grouped to form a set of application groups. A single optical connection having a bandwidth is established through a management plane for each of the set of application groups. A set of persistent upper layer connections is then established for each of the set of application groups. The underlying optical connection is adjusted while preserving the state of the upper layer protocols.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2012Date of Patent: October 27, 2015Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Douglas M. Patent number: 9143580Abstract: Network resources are provisioned within an application broker according to aggregated requests in an optical network. Resource requests are sorted to form sorted resource requests. The sorted resource requests are sorted according to destinations of the resource requests. The sorted resource requests are aggregated to form aggregated resource requests. Resource allocation is requested for each of the aggregated resource requests from a network border controller based on requirements of the set of set of aggregated resource requests. A set of allocated resources is received from the network border controller. The set of allocated resources is based on requirements of the aggregated resource requests. For each of the aggregated resource requests, network transmissions network receptions are executed utilizing associated allocated resources.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2012Date of Patent: September 22, 2015Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Douglas M. Subscriber identity module-based authentication of a wireless device and applications stored thereon
Patent number: 9088574Abstract: An approach is provided for performing a device-level and/or an application-level security check of a device. In the device-level check, a device hash is generated based on a subscriber identity module identifier (SIM ID), a device identifier, the number of secured applications, and the names of the secured applications. A temporary device hash is generated during a booting of the device. If the device hash is determined to not match the temporary device hash, the applications are removed from the device during the booting of the device. In the application-level check, an application hash is generated based on the SIM ID, the device identifier, and the application name. A temporary application hash is generated during a loading of the application. If the application hash is determined to not match the temporary application hash, the application is removed from the device without running the application.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2013Date of Patent: July 21, 2015Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Anthony J. Allegri, Jermaine C. Edwards, Christopher E. Holladay, Matthew B. Trevathan, Sumedh W. Sathaye -

Patent number: 8904014Abstract: Content delivery by a network node in a network is optimized. The network node is communicatively coupled between multiple client devices and at least one content service provider. A media streaming service provided by a content service provider is received at the network node over a first unicast link. The service is transmitted from the network node to a first requestor device via a second unicast link. A request from a second requestor device for the service is intercepted by the network node. If it is determined that a multicast optimization threshold has been reached and/or exceeded, the service is transmitted from the network node to the first and second requestor devices using a single multicast link, while the service is received from the content service provider over the first unicast link.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2012Date of Patent: December 2, 2014Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Cesar A. Gonzales, Sumedh W. Sathaye

Patent number: 8825811Abstract: Content delivery by a network node is optimized. The network node is communicatively coupled between multiple end user devices and at least one content service provider. A request for a media streaming service available from the content service provider is intercepted from a first requestor device. It is determined if the media streaming service is registered for delivery optimization based on at least one service rule specific to the media streaming service. It is determined if a second requestor device is currently receiving the media streaming service from the content service provider. In response to the media streaming service being received by the second requestor device, delivery optimization of the media streaming service is performed by replicating the media streaming service for delivery to the first requestor device. The replicated media streaming service is sent to the first requestor device.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2012Date of Patent: September 2, 2014Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Cesar A. Gonzales, Kang-Won Lee, Sumedh W. Sathaye, Dinesh Verma, Peter Westerink

Patent number: 8806489Abstract: Virtual machine images are distributed to, and retrieved from an image distribution network. A virtual machine image is received on the image distribution network and divided into chunks with a unique resource identifier created for each of the chunks. A virtual machine image reassembly file is created. Each of the chunks is assigned a unique resource locator address. An image distribution network server maintains a mapping between unique resource identifier for each of the chunks and the unique resource locator address. When a request to download a virtual machine image is received, chunks of the virtual machine image that are locally present are identified. Chunks of the virtual machine image that are not locally present are mapped to unique resource locator addresses in the image distribution network. When a sufficient number of chunks has been retrieved to instantiate the virtual machine image, the virtual machine image is instantiated.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 2012Date of Patent: August 12, 2014Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Douglas M. Patent number: 8589662Abstract: A dynamic predictive and/or exact caching mechanism is provided in various stages of a microprocessor pipeline so that various control signals can be stored and memorized in the course of program execution. Exact control signal vector caching may be done. Whenever an issue group is formed following instruction decode, register renaming, and dependency checking, an encoded copy of the issue group information can be cached under the tag of the leading instruction. The resulting dependency cache or control vector cache can be accessed right at the beginning of the instruction issue logic stage of the microprocessor pipeline the next time the corresponding group of instructions come up for re-execution. Since the encoded issue group bit pattern may be accessed in a single cycle out of the cache, the resulting microprocessor pipeline with this embodiment can be seen as two parallel pipes, where the shorter pipe is followed if there is a dependency cache or control vector cache hit.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 2012Date of Patent: November 19, 2013Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Erik R. Patent number: 8386712Abstract: A design structure embodied in a machine readable storage medium for designing, manufacturing, and/or testing a design for a single unified level one instruction cache in which some lines may contain traces and other lines in the same congruence class may contain blocks of instructions consistent with conventional cache lines is provided. A mechanism is described for indexing into the cache, and selecting the desired line. Control is exercised over which lines are contained within the cache. Provision is made for selection between a trace line and a conventional line when both match during a tag compare step.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 2008Date of Patent: February 26, 2013Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Gordon T.
