In the method of receiving data, at least one of a plurality of media data generated by encoding content to have different qualities is received, the plurality of media data each including at least one segment; location information indicating a randomly accessible point of each of the at least one segment is obtained; and random accessing is provided on the received media data, based on the location information.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for reproducing media data are provided. The method includes: receiving a first file including information about a period of first content and information about a period of second content; receiving and reproducing media data of the first content based on the received first file; stopping reproducing of the media data of the first content and receiving and reproducing media data of the second content based on the first file; and receiving and reproducing the media data of the first content when the reproducing the media data of the second content is completed, wherein the information about the period of the second content includes location information about the second media data of the second content or location information of a second file including the location information about the second media data of the second content.

The method at a server includes: generating a media presentation description (MPD) file including information about at least one piece of trick play data; transmitting the MPD file to a client; and transmitting the at least one piece of trick play data to the client in response to a request by the client based on the MPD file. The method at a client includes: receiving a media presentation description (MPD) file including information about at least one piece of trick play data; and receiving the at least one piece of trick play data from a server based on the MPD file.

Abstract: A contents reproducing method and apparatus for adjusting a contents reproducing time are provided. The method includes: receiving a target reproducing time and user preference information, the user preference information including at least one of user preferred contents sections or scenes from an external source; obtaining contents reproducing data for adjusting a reproducing speed of the contents based on the target reproducing time and the user preference information; and adjusting the reproducing speed of the contents based on the reproducing data.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for transmitting and receiving information in an Internet Protocol (IP) network. In the method of allowing a client to receive information from a server, the client requests that a third client in a subnet to which the client belongs transmit the information, and receives the information that the third client transmits in response to the request. Accordingly, it is possible to quickly share information for a broadcast, which the server provides, while minimizing the load on the server.

Abstract: Provided are a method of generating a patch file of an in-place method, which includes “diff” instructions to. update software components installed in a device, and a computer readable recording medium storing programs for executing the method. The method includes setting a working window having the same size as the size of the largest one of a reference file and a target file; generating at least one diff instruction by performing longest common string (LCS) matching in a predetermined direction in the working window; and generating a patch file containing the at least one diff instruction.

Abstract: A security method and system for maintaining security between a client and a server and a computer-readable medium storing a computer program for executing the security method are provided. The security system includes a memory which stores current authentication information; an authentication information transmission module which transmits the current authentication information to a server and receives latest authentication information from the server; an authentication information management module which authenticates the latest authentication information using the current authentication information and updates the current authentication information with the latest authentication information if the latest authentication information is successfully authenticated; and an authentication module which authenticates data received from the server using the updated current authentication information stored in the memory.
