  • Patent number: 10643668
Abstract: Implementations disclosed herein provide for detecting an expected or unexpected power loss event on a storage device. Responsive to the detection of the power loss event, a plurality of potentially affected data blocks are identified and/or marked, such as by a processor, to indicate that data stored therein is potentially corrupted.

  • Patent number: 9286936
Abstract: Systems and methods for zone-based band mapping in a data storage device are disclosed. In one embodiment, a device may comprise a first data storage medium including a first band of tracks and a second band of tracks, each band of tracks including multiple adjacent tracks that are at least partially overlapped. The device may further comprise a processor configured to receive a write command to store received data to the first band of tracks, read previously stored data from the first band of tracks, modify the previously stored data with the received data to generate first modified data, write the first modified data to the second band of tracks, and assign a first data storage location indicator previously associated with the first band of tracks to the second band of tracks.

  • Patent number: 9070378
Abstract: A method and system can be implemented to perform a read-modify-write operation on data recorded in a shingled media format. In one embodiment, a write operation on a band of data stored on a magnetic recording medium is initiated at an intermediate position within the band of data. This is particularly well-suited for data written by a shingled media write operation.

  • Patent number: 8989045
Abstract: Methods, devices and systems for improved zone merge operations are disclosed. Two connected switches are arbitrated as an initiator and a receiver. The merge operation is initiated only by the initiator on an initiator/receiver inter-switch link. The initiator may initiate a merge request and the receiver may perform the computation of the difference between the old and the new zone. Either the whole configuration or only the differences are communicated between the switches. The merges may be done on a connected switch basis, not on a connected port basis. Only the principle ports in the principle inter-switch-link perform the merge operation. All the remaining ports, i.e. the non-principle ports, adopt the merge result of the principle ports. The zone information may also be cached on each switch such that merge calculations need not be performed again when a merge operation with the same configuration occurs in the future.

  • Publication number: 20140254042
Abstract: In a shingled magnetic recording system, LBA can be dynamically allocated to an un-shingled media partition (UMP) based on a usage metric. In one implementation, the usage metric depends upon the frequency of writes to storage region and/or upon how recently the storage location has been written to. Data corresponding to one or more LBA ranges within a shingled data region may be rewritten to a storage region within a UMP on the disk.

  • Patent number: 8295288
Abstract: Disclosed herein are various aspects of a Fibre Channel (Fibre Channel) fabric having switches that employ Registered State Change Notifications (RSCNs) with enhanced payloads. Two types of RSCN message formats are provided, both including status information about the affected device(s). In one embodiment, a RSCN message format for inter-switch communication provides various information about the affected devices according to one of a plurality of predetermined formats. In another embodiment, a node device RSCN message format provides information about a port state, the identification of the affected port, along with the port and node world wide names and the FC-4 types supported by the node.
