  • Patent number: 8184592
Abstract: A method, medium, and system for reserving resources in a mobile network. A mobile node reports a start of a handover to a present access router if the handover of the mobile node occurs, and the previous access router transmits specified session information to a candidate access router that has a possibility handling the mobile node's handover. A candidate crossover router, which performs a resource reservation work on a new path and a resource release on the previous path, is searched, and a localized resource reservation is established by exchanging a specified resource reservation message before the handover is completed if the candidate crossover router is determined. Accordingly, duplication of resources can be prevented, and a prompt resource reservation can be achieved during the handover.

  • Patent number: 7796992
Abstract: A resource reservation system and a method for managing resources under consideration of the mobility of an MN are provided where an old refresh interval for an old resource reservation state is changed in response to handoff. The changed refresh interval propagates through at least one of a path supporting a corresponding session before the handoff and a path newly established due to handoff occurrence. When the handoff is completed, resources are released on a path, which is a part of the path supporting the corresponding session before the handoff and is not used due to the handoff occurrence, based on the changed refresh interval.

  • Patent number: 7633880
Abstract: A queue management method of an access network device includes receiving a packet, determining feasibility of a packet transmission within a delivery deadline allowed from a destination if the received packet is for real-time transmission, storing the packet in the transmission queue and transmitting the packet in sequential order of the storage when the packet transmission within the delivery deadline is feasible, and dropping the packet instead of storing the packet in the transmission queue when the packet transmission is determined infeasible. Accordingly, resources required for the packet transmission are saved.

  • Publication number: 20040264409
Abstract: A resource reservation system for mobile network environments having a mobile node, routers for intermediating communications between the mobile node and a correspondent node belonging to another network, and neighboring routers geographically adjacent to the router, includes a manager for sending a path request message for establishing a new path to the neighboring routers if a fast resource reservation and release (FREE) initiation message is received from the mobile node if the mobile node as a receiver performs a handoff. If the mobile node enters a communication range of any of the neighboring routers, the manager establishes a new path between the mobile node and the manager through the neighboring router for the communication range according to the sent path request message. Accordingly, the manager performs establishment of a new RSVP path and release of a previous RSVP path at the same time to prevent double resource reservation occasions.

  • Publication number: 20040233845
Abstract: In an edge router controlling traffic flows using a buffer in a network handling both real-time traffic and data application traffic, a buffer management-based transmission includes receiving a packet from the network and deciding whether the received packet is a choke packet. If the received packet is not the choke packet, then the received packet is classified into a predetermined traffic class. The buffer is divided logically, and a buffer area of the logically divided buffer is assigned to the traffic class into which the received packet is classified. Control of transmission of the received packet includes either dropping the received packet or storing the received packet in the buffer area assigned to the classified traffic class. Accordingly, the present invention can continuously guarantee appropriate bandwidth required for real-time traffic and, at the same time, prevent a situation in which no bandwidth is assigned to data application traffic.
