  • Patent number: 5884208
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for fast accelerating a vehicle which converts to a fast acceleration mode, wide-opens a throttle valve, increases the torque of a transmission, locks up a transmission after gearshifting a transmission to a high gear position if the torque of the transmission reaches a predetermined value, and converts from a fast acceleration mode to a normal acceleration mode if a brake pedal is depressed. In the fast acceleration mode, a fuel-air mixture is injected into the engine asynchronously and the throttle valve is wide-opened. A vehicle can be accelerated quickly by just a narrow depression of an accelerator pedal. The apparatus comprises a mode switch, an accelerator pedal sensor, a first control unit for controlling a vehicle under a normal acceleration mode, a motor for wide-opening the throttle valve, and a second control unit for controlling a vehicle under a fast acceleration mode.

  • Patent number: 5847472
Abstract: A method for recording the operation time of an air bag system and an apparatus for the recording the operation state and the operation time of each module of an air bag system at the moment of operation of an air bag system, are disclosed. Time is initialized, and then it is judged whether or not a collision sensing signal has been transmitted from a collision sensor. When the collision sensing signal has been transmitted, the collision sensing signal is compared with a preset point. When the collision sensing signal exceeds the preset point, a control circuit outputs a control signal to operate an air bag, and measuring the time. Next, whether or not the control signal has been normally transmitted is judged. When the control signal has not been normally transmitted, a first system error is recorded in a memory device. When the control signal has been normally transmitted, a transmission time of the control signal is recorded. Then, whether or not the air bag had normally expanded is judged.

  • Patent number: 5762972
Abstract: An apparatus performs induction heating or dielectric heating of a mold for an injection molding system up to a desired temperature within a short time by using high frequencies or microwaves. The electric current of high frequency generated from a high frequency generator flows through a coil embedded in the mold to induction-heat the mold by an induction phenomenon with the mold, and microwaves from a microwave generator heats the dielectric material within the mold, thereby preventing cooling of the mold when a resin fluid is injected into a cavity.

  • Patent number: 5747187
Abstract: A lithium battery is provided which can promptly cut off current when it is being overheated by a short or the like, thereby preventing an explosion thereof. A shape-memory alloy spring made of a nickel-titanium alloy is included between the cover and the cap, either for making contact with both the cover and the cap, thereby electrically connecting the cover with the cap, or for separating from the cap in the case of an overheating of the battery, thereby electrically disconnecting the cover from the cap. A semi-spherical protrusion is formed at the center of the spring so as to make contact with the bottom of the cap, so that if the battery is overheated, the protrusion becomes flat, and is separated from the cap, thereby electrically disconnecting the cap from the cover. The semi-spherical protrusion of the shape-memory alloy spring repeatedly contracts and expands so as to prevent the overheating of the battery.

  • Patent number: 5730458
Abstract: An airbag system, onto which an airbag can be mounted for restraining an occupant during a side collision of a vehicle, can be used as an armrest. The airbag system has a container having an airbag module inside and a supporting bar for supporting the container, wherein a first end of the supporting bar is pivotally connected to a rear of a seat portion and a second end of the supporting bar is connected to the container. When an impact force is applied to a side of a vehicle, because the supporting bar and the container are transferred from a first position to a second position by first and second step motors, the supporting bar can absorb the impact force transmitted through a door of the vehicle. The airbag module contained in the container is operated and the inflator deploys the airbag, thus the occupant is protected.

  • Patent number: 5678855
Abstract: A pyrotechnic inflator using a thermoelectric device decreases the temperature and pressure of a gas generated when the explosive of the inflator is detonated to simplify the structure thereof. The inflator includes the thermoelectric device for receiving a power from an electronic control unit to cool an inflator housing in a predetermined temperature, and a linear flow passage therein. A metal is installed to one side of the flow passage for eliminating minute particles included in the gas generated during the detonation of the explosive and lowering the temperature of the gas. Upon the power supply to the inflator, the inflator housing is cooled to reduce the temperature of the gas generated when the explosive of the inflator is detonated and to decrease the peak explosion pressure, thereby simplifying the structure and facilitating the manufacturing of the inflator.

  • Patent number: 5662355
Abstract: An air bag system in which a small quantity of gas is necessary for quickly unfolding the air bag, is disclosed. The air bag system has a housing having a cover at the upper portion thereof and an inflator for generating inert gas. The inflator being provided at the bottom portion of said housing and is filled therein with an explosive material for generating the inert gas by igniting the explosive material when a collision sensing signal which is generated at the collision of the motor vehicle. An inflatable air bag is folded in said housing and has a front portion which contacts with a human body when unfolded, an inlet portion for introducing the inert gas into said inflatable air bag, a middle portion between the front portion and the inlet portion. The front portion has a flexible foam coated on an outer surface of the front portion.
