  • Publication number: 20090268570
Abstract: An apparatus for changing a recording speed of an optical recording medium by analyzing wobble signals in real time during a recording operation, includes a signal process unit which outputs a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) signal that checks for a generation of errors on the optical recording medium from absolute time in pregroove (ATIP) information output from the optical recording medium during the recording operation, and a speed control unit which changes the recording speed during the recording operation according to a comparison of the CRC signal output from the signal process unit with a reference value. In the apparatus, the recording speed is limited or lowered in response to a signal quality of a recording section being less than an acceptable level during the recording operation. Accordingly, buffer under run and defects of read-in start position and seek fail, which are generated during a ZCLV operation, are prevented.

  • Patent number: 6785211
Abstract: An automatic power control (APC) apparatus reducing time necessary for stabilizing an APC circuit at the initial stage of automatic power control of a disc drive is provided. The APC circuit is designed such that a voltage of a predetermined percent of an expected output voltage is previously added to an APC output voltage of the APC circuit of a laser diode, thereby greatly reducing a stabilizing time necessary for stabilizing an APC output voltage at an initial stage in a write or read mode. Therefore, the loss of data in a high speed write or read mode can be reduced. Particularly, the loss of data in a high speed write mode can be greatly reduced.

  • Patent number: 6731586
Abstract: An optical recording/reproducing apparatus which controls the power of a laser diode (LD) and a method therefor. A current power level of an optical signal output by the LD is compared with a reference level and the output of the LD is controlled according to the comparison result. A photo detector (PD) monitors the current power level of the optical signal output by the LD. The current power level is compared with a reference level and power to the LD is controlled based on the comparison. Two different control loops are provided. In a first loop, comparison data is continually provided and in a second loop, sampled comparison data is provided based on a non return to zero inverted (NRZI) signal. Rapid change in an optical output is controlled using the different loops according to a kind and state of a medium such as a disc.

  • Publication number: 20040047254
Abstract: A method and apparatus for correcting a tilt without repeatedly calculating a tilt angle with respect to a corresponding recording or reproducing sector, by managing the tilt angle detected with respect to each recording sector of a disc in a disc drive. If a tilt of a disc mounted in the disc drive is detected, a memory is searched for a tilt angle for a sector of the disc in which the tilt is detected. If no tilt angle is found in the memory, a tilt angle is calculated for the sector based on the detected tilt of the disc, the tilt of the disc is corrected, and the calculated tilt angle stored in the memory to be used for the sector. If a tilt angle is found in the memory, the tilt of the sector is corrected using the found tilt angle.
