  • Patent number: 7956105
Abstract: Disclosed is a silicone impact modifier with a high refractive index. The silicone impact modifier can include (A) a rubber core including (a1) an organosiloxane cross-linked (co)polymer with a particle size of about 50 to about 400 nm and (a2) an alkylacrylate-styrenic aromatic compound cross-linked copolymer; and (B) a plastic shell including a vinyl (co)polymer. The refractive index of the silicone impact modifier of the present invention can be about 1.49 to about 1.59.

  • Patent number: 7943692
Abstract: A polycarbonate composition and its use as a molded article and as housing or a part of electronic device are disclosed. The polycarbonate composition includes a polycarbonate resin, a liquid crystalline polymer resin, a core-shell grafted copolymer and a low molecular weight polyolefin. The composition has an impact strength of at least about 68 kg·cm/cm when a specimen of the composition is subject to a chemical treatment and the chemically treated specimen is tested according to the standard ASTM D256 (?? notched). The composition has an impact resistance of exhibiting substantially no cracking when a specimen of the composition is subject to a chemical treatment and the chemically treated specimen is tested at 0.6 m according to the standard ASTM D3029. The chemical treatment includes submerging the specimen in paint thinner for 20 seconds and thereafter drying the specimen at 70° C. for 5 minutes.

  • Patent number: 7671143
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a flame retardant polycarbonate resin composition having high heat resistance and good impact resistance. The flame retardant polycarbonate composition is prepared by incorporating into a polycarbonate resin a silicon-based core-shell graft copolymer, in which a vinyl monomer is graft polymerized onto a rubber comprising about 20 to about 95% by weight of silicon, and optionally a phosphoric acid ester compound. The present invention can accordingly provide superior flame retardance while maintaining good impact resistance, high flowability and high heat resistance.

  • Patent number: 7541401
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an impact modifier for a polymer composition and a method of preparing the same. The impact modifier includes a core comprising a polyorganosiloxane, an acrylate polymer and a styrenic polymer; and a shell generally surrounding the core, the shell comprising a polymer attached to the core. The method includes providing a silicone rubber particle; adding a polymerizable styrenic compound into the silicone rubber particle; polymerizing the polymerizable styrenic compound within the particle to provide a styrenic polymer; adding a polymerizable acrylic compound into the silicone rubber particle; polymerizing the polymerizable acrylic compound within the silicone rubber particle to provide an acrylate polymer; and grafting a polymerizable compound onto the silicone rubber particle to provide a shell substantially surrounding the silicone rubber particle comprising the styrenic polymer and the acrylate polymer.
