The method includes receiving a command to record the data on a closed recording range. The closed recording range has no recordable position. An open recording range having a recordable position is selected from one or more open recording ranges on the user data area, and the data is recorded starting from the recordable position of the selected open recording range.

Abstract: AV stream files and original management files are initially recorded in a first data recordable area of an optical disc. After the recordation of the original management files in the first data recordable area, at least one backup management file is recorded in a second recordable area of the disc. When associated original file system information is recorded in the first data recordable area after the recordation of the backup management file, backup file system information is recorded in a third data recordable area. All of the first, second, and third data recordable areas are closed after the recordation of the backup file system information.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing digital content are discussed. According to an embodiment, the method includes receiving digital content and protection information for protecting the digital content; obtaining flag information associated with time information; obtaining the time information indicating one of a relative time and an absolute time based on the flag information; and managing the digital content according to the time information, wherein the managing step prevents use of the digital content upon an expiration of the time indicated in the time information.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for managing playlists of a rewritable recording medium in order to prevent unlimited playback or illegal edition of television broadcast programs or movies wherein copyright protection is required. The present invention operates by adding information needed for automatic timed deletion of consecutively recorded clips of A/V streams and deletion time information into the playlists of a recording medium such as a high density rewritable optical disc (BD-RW), whereby referring to the recorded information, the corresponding clips of A/V streams are automatically deleted.

When a request to delete play list files is received, the play list files are simply marked as temporarily deleted, so that the play list files may be restored later. The method of the invention is capable of easily restoring play list files and relevant clip and clip information files deleted by mistake.
