    Abstract: A mobile terminal of controlling playback speed of an image by using a touch gesture and a method for controlling playback speed of a mobile terminal are provided. A direction, such as fast-forward or rewind, and a multiple velocity of a video screen image are determined according to a direction and movement distance of a touch gesture made by moving a user's finger on a video reproduction screen image and the video screen image is moved according to the determined multiple velocity and direction at a corresponding position when the touch gesture is released such that the video can be fast-forwarded or rewound at various speeds.
