    Abstract: Provided herein are methods for preventing or treating a viral infection in a subject, wherein the viral infection is mediated by a virus comprising one or more viral RNA molecules translated by a ribosomal shunting mechanism or a non-IRES mediated mechanism. The methods comprise administering to a subject an agent that reduces ribosomal protein (Rps25) expression or function. Also provided are methods of inhibiting or promoting ribosomal shunting-mediated translation or non-IRES mediated translation.
