Method for detecting gestures using a multi-segment photodiode and one or fewer illumination sources
Patent number: 10521017Abstract: A gesture sensing device includes a multiple segmented photo sensor and a control circuit for processing sensed voltages output from the sensor. The control circuit processes the sensed voltage signals to determine target motion relative to the segmented photo sensor. The control circuit includes an algorithm configured to calculate one of more differential analog signals using the sensed voltage signals output from the segmented photo sensors. A vector is determined according to the calculated differential analog signals, the vector is used to determine a direction and/or velocity of the target motion.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 2016Date of Patent: December 31, 2019Assignee: Maxim Integrated Products, Inc.Inventors: David Skurnik, Nevzat A. Patent number: 10429236Abstract: A gesture sensing device includes a single light source and a multiple segmented single photo sensor, or an array of photo sensors, collectively referred to herein as segmented photo sensors. A light modifying structure relays reflected light from the light source onto different segments of the segmented photo sensors. The light modifying structure can be an optical lens structure or a mechanical structure. The different segments of the photo sensor sense reflected light and output corresponding sensed voltage signals. A control circuit receives and processes the sensed voltage signals to determine target motion relative to the segmented photo sensor.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2014Date of Patent: October 1, 2019Assignee: MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, INC.Inventors: David Skurnik, Nevzat A. Patent number: 9435910Abstract: Light sensing devices are described that have a lens to focus light. In one or more implementations, the light sensing devices include a substrate having a photodetector formed thereon. The photodetector is capable of detecting light and providing a signal in response thereto. The devices also include a display screen that allows light to at least substantially pass through the display screen. An optical baffle extends above a surface of the substrate to display screen and is configured to at least substantially prevent transmission of optical crosstalk to the photodetector. The devices also include a lens disposed proximate to the display screen. The lens is configured to focus light incident upon the lens and to pass the focused light to the photodetector.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2012Date of Patent: September 6, 2016Assignee: Maxim Integrated Products, Inc.Inventor: Sunny K. Patent number: 5541908Abstract: An optical recording system having a routing prism and an objective lens bonded together with a slider to form an integrated unit. A slider is attached to the end of an arm of a rotary actuator. Housed within the slider is a prism and an objective lens. The prism directs a laser beam downwards through the objective lens which focuses the laser beam onto the surface of an optical disk.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1994Date of Patent: July 30, 1996Assignee: Maxoptix CorporationInventors: Sunny K. Patent number: 5422872Abstract: A telecentric rotary actuary in an optical storage system. A laser generates a laser beam which is focused by an objective lens onto an optical disk in order to write data to and read data from the optical disk. In performing a seek, a galvo rotates a mirror in order to reflect the laser beam to different radial displacements in reference to the optical disk. The position of the laser beam is detected, and a rotary actuator, to which the objective lens is attached, follows the movement of the laser beam. A telecentric optical system comprising a relay lens and an image lens is used to minimize an offset between the laser beam and the objective lens. The relay lens focuses the laser beam to a back focal point. The image lens optically conjugates the back focal point to a front focal point corresponding to the objective lens in order to demagnify any offset.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 1993Date of Patent: June 6, 1995Assignee: Maxoptix CorporationInventors: Sunny K. Patent number: 5303220Abstract: An apparatus and method for cleaning components internal to an optical recording system without requiring the optical recording system to be disassembled. The apparatus is comprised of inlets through which pressurized gas is fed. The pressurized gas is directed through channels within the apparatus to various outlets. The pressurized gas is then expelled from these outlets. When the apparatus is inserted in the optical recording system, the outlets are located next to components sensitive to particle contamination. Thus, the expelled gas removes the particle contaminants from the surfaces of the components, thereby enhancing operation of the optical recording system.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1992Date of Patent: April 12, 1994Assignee: Maxoptix CorporationInventors: Kenton L.
