  • Patent number: 8352368
Abstract: A method and system for making a payment is disclosed. In the method, a Payor can specify an account from which to withdraw funds for the payment and specify an activation code necessary to activate the payment. The payment can be sent to a Payee in the form of a pre-paid transaction account. The account will not be activated unless the Payee provides the activation code. Funds can be withdrawn from the account specified by the Payor either in full at the time the payment is made or are withdrawn as the Payee uses the transaction account to access the funds.

  • Publication number: 20120150744
Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatus for handling and/or authorizing payment requests by a consumer for a transaction are provided. Payment information can be sent directly from a consumer to a non-merchant, thereby allowing no new entities to obtain the payment information. Transaction identifiers can be used to facilitate communications among the entities. The payment information can be sent to the non-merchant via a merchant application with a submit payment button directed to the non-merchant so little or no deviations from standard practices are required.

  • Publication number: 20120123882
Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatus for handling and/or authorizing payment requests by a consumer for a transaction are provided. Challenge questions may be presented from the non-merchant to the consumer after receiving the payment information, thereby allowing a judicious determination of when to ask such challenge questions and allowing complex and probative questions. The time limit for such challenge questions may advantageously be unconstrained, while still preserving security. Also, a risk analysis may be started prior to the consumer submitting payment information, thus allowing an efficient and complex risk analysis. Information about an access device used by the consumer may be obtained at the non-merchant from the access device with code sent to the access device from the merchant, and the device information may be used in the risk analysis.

  • Publication number: 20120116975
Abstract: A method for correlating information received directly from an access device operated by a user, and information from a merchant server is disclosed. The method includes receiving, at a server computer of a non-merchant entity, device information specifically associated with an access device directly from the access device, and also receiving, at the server computer of the non-merchant entity, transaction information from a merchant server. The server computer then correlates and collected information and can perform additional processing.

  • Publication number: 20120094639
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to determining the location of an enrolled account holder using a mobile device, such as a mobile phone, that is associated with the cardholder's transaction account in a location-based system (LBS). The mobile device is used to determine the approximate location of the account holder at the time of the transaction, for example, by using cellular tower triangulation. Location data, such as geographic coordinates, may be combined with transaction data. The combination of transaction data and location data can be used to generate heat maps showing transaction, spending, and fraud patterns, among other data.

  • Publication number: 20110231235
Abstract: An advertised incentive system receives advertised incentive configuration information provided by a merchant. The advertised incentive configuration information defines the content of advertised incentive banners. The advertised incentive banners are provided as needed to merchants to display on the merchant's website. Advertised incentive registration information is received from an account holder after the account holder interacts with the advertised incentive banner. Transaction information is received that contains a qualified purchase made by the account holder. The advertised incentive registration and the qualified purchase are matched. A statement credit is issued against the account holder's account and a debit is issued against the merchant's account in the amount of the statement credit.

  • Publication number: 20110125565
Abstract: In one aspect, a system includes a transaction handler, a data warehouse to store transaction data recording transactions processed at the transaction handler and to store account data identifying an account of the user, and a portal to receive a user selection of a first portion of an advertisement and, in response, to present a user interface. The advertisement provides an offer and includes a second portion which when selected directs the user to a website of an advertiser. The data warehouse is to store data associating the offer with the account data of the user in response to a request made in the user interface. The system is to monitor transactions processed at the transaction handler to identify a purchase paid via the account and eligible for the redemption of the offer. The transaction handler is to provide statement credits to the user, if the payment transaction is identified.

  • Publication number: 20100114686
Abstract: One embodiment of the invention is directed to a server computer comprising a processor and a computer readable medium coupled to the processor. The computer readable medium comprises code for receiving transaction data indicating that a payment transaction associated with a primary account number has occurred and matches a trigger record, code for determining whether the payment transaction qualifies for a credit, code for initiating a credit to an account associated with the primary account number, if the payment transaction qualifies for a credit, and code for sending an electronic notification message to a consumer associated with the primary account number substantially contemporaneously with receiving the transaction data. The electronic notification message includes information about a first offer and that the primary account was credited the amount of the first offer. For example, transaction data is received indicating that a consumer made a purchase with his credit card.

  • Publication number: 20100082467
Abstract: A phone containing a data bearing medium and a method of using that phone to allow a Payee to request payment from a Payor is disclosed. The data bearing medium contains instructions to direct the phone to enable the Payee to issue an invoice in electronic form detailing the payment request to the Payor. The phone further allows the Payor to pay the invoice using a suitable payment means, such as a credit card, without requiring any infrastructure investment on the part of the Payee. Finally, the phone does not require that the Payee receive funds from the Payor in a specific account. The phone allows the Payee to receive their funds in any account specified by the Payee.
