  • Patent number: 6321219
Abstract: A user creates a rule defining file objects to appear at an arbitrary insertion point in a hierarchical file structure. Every request for a file, directory, etc. at the insertion point invokes the rule and constructs a set of dynamic links to actual locations of all file objects that satisfy the rule. Any operations performed by the program on the objects take place transparently on the objects at their actual locations. Between requests, the actual links go away, and only the rule for constructing them remains. An indexer operates continually to maintain current information on all files in the structure.

  • Patent number: 4288916
Abstract: A shielded cable comprises a flat electrical insulator having a plurality of parallel spaced-apart conductors. A pluraity of openings extend through the insulator to expose at least one conductor. The shield, which is formed from an electrically conductive coating, not only covers the exterior of the insulator but also enters the openings and is electrically connected to the conductor. Gaps are created in the electrically conductive coating so as to provide areas for interconnection by an insulation displacement connector which "mass-terminates" all of the conductors. The exposed one conductor, which is in contact through the openings with the electrically conductive coating, maintains the electrical continuity of the shield notwithstanding the gap formed therein.

  • Patent number: 4154977
Abstract: An improved cable is provided having both the advantages of mass termination of flat cable and the flexibility of a cable with independent conductors for use in limited space situations. A plurality of substantially parallel and aligned insulated conductors is provided having a layer of flat backing material substantially covering the conductors. There is a layer of adhesive between the conductors and the backing. A further layer of a nonadhesive material is utilized over the adhesive so that the adhesive will not stick to itself in the event that the cable is bent. The adhesive bond between the conductors and the backing material is such that the backing is easily hand peeled from the conductors.
