  • Patent number: 9736684
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and apparatus for detecting mismatch of ciphering parameters, such as Count-C, in a wireless device and recovery therefrom. The methods and apparatus for detection include examining a predefined ciphered field, such as a Length Indicator field, in one or more received Radio Link Control (RLC) Protocol Data Units (PDUs). Next, a determination of when the field is invalid over a predetermined sample number of PDUs is performed. Mismatch of ciphering parameters can then be determined when a predetermined number of samples of the field detected as invalid exceed a predetermined threshold. Additionally, recovery of PDUs after mismatch detections is disclosed using a range of Hyper-Frame Numbers (HFNs) to decipher buffered PDUs, and then check which of the HFNs eliminate the parameter mismatch by again determining if parameter mismatch occurs using the methods and apparatus for detection.

  • Patent number: 9706485
Abstract: Various embodiments for conducting a public land mobile network (PLMN) search for a plurality of radio access technologies (RATs) on a mobile communication device may include profiling a frequency space to identify one or more frequency bands that may be utilized by one of the plurality of RATs and determining, according to a priority ordering of the plurality of RATs, a RAT that utilizes each identified frequency band. The mobile communication device may add, for each RAT in the plurality of RATs, the identified frequency bands utilized by each RAT to exclude lists associated with other RATs in the plurality of RATs. • Publication number: 20160366626
Abstract: Minimizing conflicts between different radio access technologies (RATs) is disclosed herein which include monitoring, by a user equipment (UE), a first use of a UE Radio Frequency (RF) resource by a first Radio Access Technology (RAT). The UE monitors a second use of the UE resource by a second RAT. The UE is served by a current serving cell in the second RAT. The UE may also determine a percentage of conflict between a first use of a UE resource by a first RAT and the second use of the UE resource by the second RAT over a predefined period of time, and initiating, by the UE, a cell reselection attempt to one or more neighboring cells of a plurality of neighboring cells serving the second RAT based on the determined percentage of conflict exceeding a predetermined threshold.

  • Patent number: 9510285
Abstract: A method includes receiving a dormancy request from an application executing at a communication device. In response to the dormancy request, a message is sent from the communication device to a radio network controller. The message indicates that a data session has ended. After expiration of a time period following sending of the message, state information is provided to the application. • Patent number: 9462628
Abstract: An apparatus and a method are provided for improving user experience in a multi-radio access bearer (multi-RAB) wireless communication system. After a user equipment establishes a circuit-switched communication link and a packet-switched communication link with a core network, it may receive an indication of an error associated with the packet-switched communication link. Here, if the value of a timer such as the RAB re-establishment timer T314 has a predetermined value (e.g., 0), the user equipment may release the packet-switched communication link, and maintain the circuit-switched communication link. The packet-switched communication link may then be re-established. In this fashion, errors that may occur on the data call need not interrupt a voice call.

  • Publication number: 20160105800
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided for synchronizing security parameters between access terminals and a wireless network. An access terminal and network entity can conduct a security mode procedure where the access terminal sends a security mode complete message to the network entity. On receipt of the security mode complete message, the network entity may update to new security parameters. The access terminal may initiate a mobility procedure while the security mode procedure is ongoing and may, as a result, abort the security mode procedure and revert back to the old security parameters. The access terminal can send a mobility update message to the network entity including a dedicated status indicator adapted to inform the network entity that the access terminal has reverted back to the old security parameters. In response to the mobility update message, the network entity may revert back to the old security parameters.

  • Patent number: 9294141
Abstract: Methods and devices are disclosed for enabling improved performance for page decodes on a SIM of a multi-SIM wireless communication device in which a shared radio frequency (RF) resource is used to read system information for a different SIM. After determining that a first SIM is using the shared RF resource to decode SIBs, the wireless device may receive information about an upcoming page decode time for monitoring a paging channel associated with the second SIM. The wireless device may obtain system information block (SIB) scheduling information associated with the first SIM, and may create a RF resource release gap during the system information read period based on the SIB scheduling information and the upcoming page decode time. Control of the RF resource may be released from the modem stack associated within the first SIM, and gained by a modem stack associated with the second SIM during the RF resource release gap.
