  • Patent number: 8396618
Abstract: A system and method for controlling torque in a hybrid electric vehicle. The system provides a regenerative braking torque with an electrical machine when a level of braking torque indicated by actuation of a brake control device exceeds a level of traction torque indicated by actuation of an acceleration control device. The regenerative braking torque is supplemented by a friction braking system when the braking torque requested by a vehicle operator exceeds a maximum regenerative braking capacity of the electrical machine.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 10, 2005
Date of Patent: March 12, 2013
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLC
    Inventors: Susan Cikanek, Suresh Sureshbabu
  • Patent number: 8206204
Abstract: A method of cooling an engine control unit (ECU) coupled to an engine in a vehicle having a cabin climate control system, comprising operating the vehicle cabin climate control system according to a customer-based climate control setting during a first operating condition, and overriding said customer-based setting during a second operating condition including an ECU over-temperature condition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 21, 2006
Date of Patent: June 26, 2012
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLC
Inventors: Bruce Bryant, Suresh Sureshbabu, Michiel J. van Nieuwstadt

  • Patent number: 7240660
Abstract: A method of reducing heat generated in a fuel injector driver controlled by an engine control unit (ECU) of a vehicle engine, the injector coupled to the engine, the method comprising of varying a number of fuel injector injections in an engine cycle as a temperature of the ECU varies, where during a first ECU temperature condition said injector performs a first number of injections in an engine cycle, said first number being at least two injections, and during a second temperature condition higher than said first temperature condition said injector performs a second number of injections less than said first number of injection in an engine cycle, said second number being at least one injection.
