  • Patent number: 6531692
Abstract: An emitter lens is provided between the radiation source and the work surface to be illuminated. The emitter lens collects radiation and reshapes the illumination pattern to increase intensity and uniformity. The radiation source and emitter lens have associated housings which act to properly orient and align the emitter lens and radiation source. The emitter lens also acts to space the radiation source from an aperture in a housing of the computer input device to provide protection against damage due to electrostatic discharge (ESD). An imaging lens is provided between the work surface and the image sensor to focus light reflected from the work surface onto the image sensor. An imaging lens housing or holder is provided to properly orient and align the imaging lens with the image sensor. The imaging lens housing provides an apron which increases ESD discharge path length.

  • Patent number: 6462330
Abstract: An integrated lens and aperture plate for an optical sensor equipped integrated chip in which the lens and aperture plate are molded as one piece with the lens at the appropriate location so that the lens aligns with the location of the optical sensor when the aperture plate is assembled to the IC. The lens and sensor are in fixed relation to one another since they are parts of the identical component, the IC, and any registration problems between the lens and sensor are thus eliminated.

  • Patent number: 6421045
Abstract: A snap-on lens carrier for optical pointing devices has retaining legs which structurally affix the lens to the IC to automatically align and register the lens with the aperture plate of the optical sensor. The lens carrier has a body portion which includes the lens and retaining legs arranged on the ends of the body portion. The retaining legs may take various forms, but in general are perpendicular to the body portion with a retaining detent formed at each of their free ends. The retaining legs are configured so that their length between a bearing area on the body portion and the detent corresponds to the thickness of an optical sensor IC. The retaining legs of the lens carrier are resiliently biased to enable the carrier to snap-on to the IC, and thus attached, the IC and lens function as an integral unit when assembled with the remaining components of the pointing device.

  • Patent number: 5679927
Abstract: An environmentally sealed enclosure for encapsulating a splice between cable segments. Cable gripping apparatus in the housing limits movement of the cable relative to the housing and includes a bonding portion to prevent separation of sealant from a cable when a cable is positioned to extend through the entrance into the housing. Walls of top and bottom shell segments are configured to be locked together for forming an enclosure containing encapsulant for protecting the splice.
