  • Publication number: 20240076942
Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring and control in downhole well applications are provided. The system and methodology may be combined with a variety of completions or other types of well equipment deployed downhole to enable both electrical and fiber optic communication with downhole components. For example, the system enables both electrical and fiber optic communication for operating and monitoring of downhole completion systems or other systems.

  • Publication number: 20220334279
Abstract: A sensing optical fiber includes multiple waveguides or cores to allow sensing of multiple measurands using a single fiber. The fiber can be a dual clad fiber having a single mode core and a multi-mode core disposed radially or circumferentially about the single mode core. A dual clad fiber coupler couples source light from a DAS interrogator and a DTS interrogator into the dual clad fiber in use.

  • Patent number: 10087717
Abstract: A dual use cable includes at least one fiber optic cable encased in a metallic component that is encased in a layer of polymer material. The polymer material is surrounded by a tube or armor wire strength members embedded in one or two additional polymer material layers. A final assembly can include an outer metallic component or an outer layer of polymer material. The at least one fiber optic cable transmits data and the armor wire strength members and/or metallic components transmit at least one of electrical power and data.

  • Patent number: 7912333
Abstract: A powered fiber optic cable for use in a hydrocarbon well of extensive depth and/or deviation. The cable may couple to a downhole tool for deployment to well locations of over 30,000 feet in depth while maintaining effective surface communication and powering of the tool. The cable may be configured to optimize volume within a core thereof by employing semi-circular forward and return power conducting portions about a central fiber optic portion. As such, the cable may maintain a lightweight character and a low profile of less than about 0.5 inches in diameter in spite of powering requirements for the downhole tool or the extensive length of the cable itself.
