    Abstract: A method of administering an oral bandage to lesions in the oral mucosa is disclosed wherein there is prepared a storage stable topical gel formulation adapted to form an oral bandage adherent to the oral mucosa when applied thereto, the gel containing at least one anesthetic compound, a keratolytic compound, an astringent compound and an ethyl cellulose gelling agent in an amount of at least about 8% by weight and then applying the gel to the area of the oral mucosa experiencing irritation to form an adherent oral bandage.
