  • Patent number: 9511256
Abstract: A therapeutic muscle exercise device for assisting subjects in maintaining and regaining muscle tone through the use of functional electrical stimulation has an extremity support and a functional electrical stimulation controller. The extremity support is mounted on a mobile support which allows the device to be easily used when the subject is laying on a bed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 15, 2015
Date of Patent: December 6, 2016
    Assignee: RESTORATIVE THERAPIES, INC.
Inventors: Andrew Bruce Barriskill, Scott Simcox, Robert Flesher, Susan Harkema

  • Publication number: 20070016116
Abstract: A method and a robotic device for locomotion training. The method involves shifting a subject's pelvis without directly contacting the subject's leg, thereby causing the subject's legs to move along a moveable surface. The device comprises two backdriveable robots, each having three pneumatic cylinders that connect to each other at their rod ends for attachment to the subject's torso. Also provided is a method of determining a locomotion training strategy for a pelvic-shifting robot by incorporating dynamic motion optimization.

  • Publication number: 20040097330
Abstract: A robotic exoskeleton and a control system for driving the robotic exoskeleton, including a method for making and using the robotic exoskeleton and its control system. The robotic exoskeleton has sensors embedded in it which provide feedback to the control system. Feedback is used from the motion of the legs themselves, as they deviate from a normal gait, to provide corrective pressure and guidance. The position versus time is sensed and compared to a normal gait profile. Various normal profiles are obtained based on studies of the population for age, weight, height and other variables.
