    Abstract: The invention provides a method of producing a mesodermal lineage progenitor cell, by 10 application of one or more factors selected from the group consisting of activin, Wnt, BMP, FGF, an inhibitor of activin, GDF and NT to a culture of undifferentiated stem cells for a period of time sufficient to differentiate a stem cell into a mesodermal lineage progenitor cell. The stem cell may be derived from a stem cell line, such as an embryonic stem cell line, for example HUES-1, HUES-7, HUES-8, MAN-1 or MAN-2. Also provided are cell 1 cultures, cells, matrices, kits and uses of the cell cultures and cells.
