Specifically, the disclosure provides a method for treating a mammal having cancer, the method comprises: (a) identifying said mammal as containing an elevated level of Bim, and (b) administering to said mammal an anti-B7-H1 antibody, an anti-PD-1 antibody, an anti-CD80 antibody, or a fusion protein comprising a portion of PD1 or a portion of CD80, under conditions wherein the interaction of naturally occurring B7-H1 with PD-1 or CD80 in said mammal is reduced after said administering.
