Publication number: 20240225137Abstract: A sleeper garment for an infant employs an anti-flail receptacle for mitigating a startling sensation from a flailing reflex that is inherent in development. The receptacle occupies the sleeve region and provides a limited region of movement to accommodate a controlled degree of movement, but constrains the movement to avoid startling a sleeping infant awake. The receptacle has a semicircular or polygonal shape that allows hand and elbow flexure, and a elastic mesh periphery to provide an elastic, cushioned response toward the end of the allowed range of movement as the periphery of the receptacle stretches. The receptacle defines a periphery from the shoulder toward the torso. This provides a more settling response to the flail reflex than a tight swaddle, which restricts almost all movement, and may be combined with pressure accessories to provide further soothing sensations simulating a caregiver touch.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 4, 2023Publication date: July 11, 2024Inventors: Manasi Gangan, Susan Sofia-Mclntire

Publication number: 20220379072Abstract: A wearable weighted apparatus is capable of providing gentle, targeted pressure to an infant that can simulate the effect of being held by a caregiver. The wearable weighted apparatus comprises a textile base, and includes one or more wraps with a weighted region. The textile base may take the form of a conventional infant garment, or may take other forms such as a band or harness. When an infant is wearing the wearable weighted apparatus, the wrap may be extended across the infant's body such that the weighted region is positioned adjacent to a specific area of the infant's body, for example, the infant's chest. The weighted region may contain a filling that is slightly denser than the surrounding material, in order to provide gentle pressure to mimic the weight offered by a human hand or arm resting on a baby. The weighted region may have also dimensions designed to simulate the approximate size of a human hand, thus simulating the sensation of being held by a caregiver.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 25, 2021Publication date: December 1, 2022Inventors: Manasi Gangan, Susan Sofia-Mcintire, Apeksha Katta

Patent number: 9572376Abstract: A wearable or swaddling accessory blanket provides gentle pressure on the side and/or on the thoracic area of an infant to mimic the human hold. The wearable garment or swaddling blanket appliance includes integrated protrusions in the form of pressure accessories for simulating the slight pressure felt from a caregiver when holding or cradling an infant. The pressure accessories are enlarged or expanded areas disposed at locations on a textile base such as a blanket such that they approximate the arm and hand positions of a caregiver when the swaddling appliance is engaged by wrapping around an infant. Wings or flaps of the appliance facilitate engaging the appliance around an infant such that tension in the wrapped blanket appliance induce a slight inward pressure on the pressure accessories such that the infant perceives the pressure and interprets a caregiver hold or touch.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2014Date of Patent: February 21, 2017Assignee: Nested Bean Inc.Inventors: Manasi Gangan, Susan Sofia-McIntire
