    Abstract: A display device capable of improving image quality is provided. A display device includes a plurality of pixel blocks in a display region. The pixel blocks each include a first circuit and a plurality of second circuits. The first circuit has a function of adding a plurality of pieces of data supplied from a source driver. The second circuit includes a display element and has a function of performing display in accordance with the added data. One pixel has a configuration including one second circuit and an component of the first circuit that is shared. When the first circuit is shared by a plurality of pixels, the aperture ratio can be increased.

    Abstract: A display device including a circuit suitable for controlling a liquid crystal element is provided. The display device includes two memories in one pixel and a plurality of pixels arranged in the horizontal and vertical directions share a gate line. The display device includes a liquid crystal element and by writing charges to different polarity capacitors, power consumption in an inversion operation can be reduced. Furthermore, a liquid crystal element with a high threshold voltage can be suitably used and a wide range of voltages can be applied without impairing grayscale display characteristics in the display device. Furthermore, a voltage higher than or equal to an output voltage of a source driver can be applied to the liquid crystal element.

The pixel has a function of taking in the data twice from the wiring and performing addition. The pixel can perform the first writing of the data in a period during which the data is supplied to the wiring, and can perform the second writing of the data in a period during which the data is held in the wiring. Therefore, by one time of data charging to a source line, a data potential larger than or equal to an output voltage of a source driver can be supplied to a display element.

    Abstract: A display apparatus having an excellent boosting function is provided. The display apparatus is provided with a pixel having a function of adding data (a boosting function). A capacitor for boosting voltage is provided in the pixel, and data is added by capacitive coupling to be supplied to a display device. The capacitor for boosting voltage and a capacitor for retaining data are placed on top of each other, whereby the capacitance value of the capacitor for boosting voltage can be increased. Thus, the pixel can have an excellent boosting function, without significantly losing the aperture ratio or definition.

    Abstract: A display device capable of performing proper display without image signal conversion is provided. In the case of high-resolution display, individual data is supplied to each pixel through a first signal line and a first transistor included in each pixel. In the case of low-resolution display, the same data is supplied to a plurality of pixels through a second signal line and a second transistor electrically connected to the plurality of pixels. When the number of image signals to be displayed is more than one and the image signals support different resolutions, display can be performed without up conversion or down conversion by switching an image signal supply path as described above.

The display device can turn on and turn off a light-emitting device by PAM and PWM control (a pulse width control involving changes in amplitude). The display device writes the same input signal (data potential) to a first node and a second node to turn on the light-emitting device in accordance with a potential of the first node and generate a pulse signal in accordance with a potential of the second node. The potential of the first node can be reset in accordance with the generated pulse signal. Therefore, the light-emitting device can emit light for a desired period with a desired emission intensity.
