Patent number: 4681519Abstract: A rotor for a rotary compressor having a metal central portion integral with two opposite end portions that are fiber-reinforced metal matrix composites having a matrix metal common to the central portion. Such rotors may be made by pressing inorganic fibers to form the end portions of the rotor, arranging the end portions in an opposing relationship in a mold to form the central portion between the end portions. Molten metal is placed into the mold such that it infiltrates the porous end portions while forming the central portion. Solidification of the metal forms fiber-reinforced metal-matrix composite end portions integral with the central portion.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1984Date of Patent: July 21, 1987Assignee: Nippon Piston Ring Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroshi Sakamaki, Susumu Sugishita, Yukio Horikoshi

Patent number: 4657495Abstract: Bearing apparatus for movable vane compressor is provided with a pressure-reducing passage extending from an annular clearance between the inner side surface of the bearing and the side surface of the rotor to the open air or the like, such as the suction-chamber and the suction-working space. Compressed air enters the annular clearance through a gap between the inner side surface of the side housing and the side surface of the rotor from the compression-working space between two adjacent vanes and then runs out through the pressure-reducing passage without pushing the bearing grease from the bearing.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1985Date of Patent: April 14, 1987Assignee: Nippon Piston Ring Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroshi Sakamaki, Susumu Sugishita, Yukio Horikoshi

Patent number: 4595347Abstract: A rotary compressor is provided with a rotary sleeve mounted in a center housing for rotation with a plurality of vanes movable in a rotor which is eccentrically disposed in the rotary sleeve. An air-bearing room is defined between the outer periphery of the rotary sleeve and the inner periphery of the center housing and supplied with air through an inlet internally connected to the discharge chamber or compression working space under the maximum pressure. A multiplicity of air-accumulating grooves are formed in either or both in the outer periphery of the rotary sleeve and the inner periphery of the center housing. The air-accumulating groove is composed of a suction portion gradually inclined from the peripheral direction and a compression portion sharply inclined from or perpendicular to the peripheral direction.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1984Date of Patent: June 17, 1986Assignee: Nippon Piston Ring Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroshi Sakamaki, Susumu Sugishita, Yukio Horikoshi, Kikuji Yanagihashi

Patent number: 4594062Abstract: A rotary compressor provided with a center housing and side housings, a rotary sleeve mounted for rotation in the housings and a plurality of vanes radially, slidably fitted in a rotor which is eccentrically disposed in the rotary sleeve. The rotary sleeve has its opposite side surfaces formed with a plurality of air-guide grooves. As the rotary sleeve rotates, the air-guide grooves guide air to flow from the compression working space in the rotary sleeve to the air-bearing room between the outer periphery of the rotary sleeve and the inner periphery of the center housing and from the air-bearing room to the suction working space in the rotary sleeve so that an air film is formed in each of the both side clearances between the both side surfaces of the rotary sleeve and the inner surfaces of both side housings.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1983Date of Patent: June 10, 1986Assignee: Nippon Piston Ring Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroshi Sakamaki, Susumu Sugishita, Yukio Horikoshi, Kikuji Yanagihashi

Patent number: 4561835Abstract: The rotary compressor according to the present invention is constructed such that a rotary sleeve is rotatably and floatingly, suspended within a central housing by means of a pneumatic bearing chamber. A rotor, into and out of which a vane can freely move, is rotatably housed within said rotary sleeve. On the periphery of said rotary sleeve a taper is formed continuously extending from both ends toward the axial center. Such a construction ensures inhibition of frictional heat generation in the vane and non-lubricated rotation.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1984Date of Patent: December 31, 1985Assignee: Nippon Piston Ring Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hiroshi Sakamaki, Susumu Sugishita, Yukio Horikoshi

Patent number: 4551896Abstract: A method of forming a rotor for a vane-type rotary pump. The rotor is generally cylindrical with a plurality of vane slots. A tubular member having generally flat sections separated one from the other by corner portions is formed into the rotor by forming the flat sections into slots by deforming the tubular member. The slots are thereafter formed into the vane slots with a die and the corner portions are formed into the outer peripheral surface of the rotor, also using a die.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 1984Date of Patent: November 12, 1985Assignee: Nippon Piston Ring Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroshi Sakamaki, Susumu Sugishita, Yukio Horikoshi

Patent number: 4548558Abstract: A rotary compressor housing is outwardly formed with reinforcing grids in the form of square, diaper or honeycomb. The reinforcing grids allow the intermediate wall portions between the bolted wall portions to thermally expand as much as the bolted wall portions, resulting in that the inner periphery of the center housing always keep its circularity when the inner temperature rises due to an unavoidable compression of air.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1983Date of Patent: October 22, 1985Assignee: Nippon Piston Ring Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroshi Sakamaki, Susumu Sugishita, Yukio Horikoshi

Patent number: 4396363Abstract: In a small reciprocating pump, an annular space is provided between a cylinder and a cylinder block. The cylinder is bifurcated at its upper end, and has two projecting edges. One of these projecting edges is radially outwardly spaced apart from the other, and greater in length than the other. A cylinder head has a lower surface provided with an annular groove in which the outer projecting edge of the cylinder is engaged. A seal ring is disposed in this annular groove, and another seal ring between the projecting edges of the cylinder to maintain the cylinder in gastight contact with the cylinder head. The other seal ring also serves to support a metal plate which forms therein a valve. The cylinder head is provided with an intake passage having an intake valve, and a discharge passage having a discharge valve. The cylinder block is connected to a crank case in a gastight fashion. A crankshaft is supported rotatably in the crank case for reciprocating a piston in the cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1981Date of Patent: August 2, 1983Assignee: Nippon Piston Ring Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroshi Sakamaki, Susumu Sugishita, Yukio Horikoshi
